Judo: Wängler judoka fought strongly in Wattens

The Wängle judo team was represented by eight young fighters at the Nikolo tournament in Wattens. In addition to a few podium finishes, the judoka were able to gain a lot of good experience.

WÄNGLE/WATTENS (eha). This year over 200 judokas competed in the age groups u8 to u12, which, according to the organizers, makes it one of the largest judo tournaments in western Austria. Especially the very youngest and tournament newcomers were able to get a taste of competition here and try it out.

As the youngest, Wängle went as usual for the judo team Fenja Konzmann on the tatami. As a six-year-old, she had to take part again in the seven-year-old category. She fought her older opponents with experience. She was only beaten by one. However, she lost two fights by draw. In the end, she was able to win the last fight with a holding technique and take a good fourth place.

Also has teammate Tobiasz Latala narrowly missed the podium. He won his first encounter confidently with Seoi-nage; but lost all further fights. In only his second tournament appearance he was able to gain a lot of good experience.

Gabriela Kowal just recently started judo. Nevertheless, she decided to take part in the St. Nicholas tournament. She competed in her very first competitions unbiased, positive and relaxed. She couldn’t have had any special techniques or specific competition strategies. Although she lost her matches, she gave her opponents good, long fights. 7th place after six weeks of judo deserves respect.

Last year’s newcomer to the competition Gabriel Gundolf was able to gain some competition experience over the past year. Unfortunately, he is still visibly the lightest in his new competition group. His first fight was the strongest that coach Konzmann had ever seen from Gabriel. Through will and routine, he even managed to free himself from a hold. Nevertheless, it was only enough for a good fifth place.

The big surprises of the day were Thaddeus Schraudolf and Samuel Lokin. Both were newcomers to competition and had never fought in a judo tournament before. According to the motto “Being there is everything,” beginners are prepared by trainers before the tournament. These two judoka from Judo Team Wängle didn’t seem to care much about that. Squidward lost his first fight, but then marched calmly and attentively towards the silver medal. He even managed to throw a clean Ko-Soto-Gari technique with Ippon. A great and deserved second place for Squidward.

Samuel didn’t have an easy start either. He was one of the lighter judoka in his weight class. After suffering two defeats, it was hard to believe that Samuel was still highly motivated to win the last two fights. A great result for the newcomer. He was rewarded with the bronze cup.

One of the most experienced judoka from Wängle Anais Huber. She never misses a tournament and you can see that in her competitive demeanor and her precise judo moves. She marched confidently and flawlessly towards the final. There she only had to admit defeat to the first place team, whom she had not yet been able to defeat. A deserved second place for Anais.

Yannick Gschwend was particularly impressive with his strategic judo. He always manages to try new things even in competition. Through competition strategies such as combinations or feints, he fought his way to the bronze cup.
