Kashura wins two gold medals

At the German Youth Championships in Bonn, Leon Kaschura secured the title in the U17 age group twice. In the boys’ singles, the badminton player from Union Lüdinghauser started the tournament this year as the “second-year-old” in this age group from seeding position one and did not drop a set throughout. Kaschura also dominated the final against Milan Zeisig (SV BerlinerBrauen) and secured his second DM title with 21:15, 21:16.

He had previously won the boys’ doubles championship with Fynn Ohliger (TV Refrath). Here too, the games were quite one-sided – some were won by single digits. The final against Jarno Deters/Jakob Sjöblom (Tura Niederhochstadt/TSV Neuhausen-Nymphenburg) also went confidently to Kaschura/Ohliger with 21:10, 21:14.

Successful random mating

The pairing came about at short notice as neither Kaschura nor Ohliger had a partner in the U17 sector. At the German U19 Championships taking place next weekend in Gera, Lüdinghauser will compete with Jan Ebel (SV Fun-Ball Dortelweil) and Ohliger with Ole Schroth (1.BC Beuel).

Leon Kaschura and Juna Bartsch, a club colleague from Union Lüdinghausen, noticed in the mixed doubles that Ohliger played a good tournament. Starting from second seeding position, Kaschura and Bartsch met the eventual winners in the semi-finals and lost surprisingly clearly with 12:21, 13:21. This left “only” bronze place for the ambitious Union duo.

Juna Bartsch reached the final in the girls’ doubles with regular partner Marie Fein (Spvgg Sterkrade-Nord). Here the two met the extremely strong doubles Lisa Bonnemann/Kalliope Hermel (BV RW Wesel/Refrath) and had to admit defeat to the girls of the older year in two sets (14:21, 12:21). Nevertheless, Bartsch and Fein were happy about the silver medal – with the prospect of perhaps gold-plated it next year.

Julika Block is doubly unlucky

First you have no luck and then you have bad luck – that’s what Unionist Julika Block might have thought. Shortly before the tournament, her regular partner Dana Arnold (VfB GW Mülheim) had to cancel her participation, so Block started in the U17 girls doubles with Pia Rappen (Refrath). Unfortunately, the pairing didn’t make it past the first round. In the singles, Julika Block faced the highly favored Kalliope Hermel in the quarterfinals and lost 15:21, 15:21.

The Unionist also had bad luck in the mixed doubles. Block and partner Felix Jianheng Luo (1. BV Maintal) came up against Leon Kaschura and Juna Bartsch in the quarterfinals and lost 18:21, 15:21.

Tonner and Ineke Block in the quarterfinals

Konstantin Tonner also made it to the quarterfinals in the U15 boys’ singles and in the boys’ doubles in this age group with Alexander Mentzel (STC BW Solingen). In the mixed doubles with clubmate Clara Stork there was an exit in the second round. In the U15 girls doubles, Stork and Susann Adamek (1. BV Mülheim) lost in the opening game.

There was a notable success for U13 player Ineke Block in the U15 doubles with Constanze Thull (1. BV Mülheim). They were able to play their way to the quarterfinals. In the mixed doubles with Tristan Theobald (Refrath) it was over in the second round. Felix Sargin had to admit defeat to the older Fynn Alfsmann (Dortelweil) in the first round of the boys’ singles.

In the new year, the Union Lüdinghausen badminton department will host a major tournament itself. For the third time, it is hosting the West German Senior Championships in the Drei-Burgen-Arena from January 3rd to 5th (Friday to Sunday).
