Klay Thompson Climbs the Three-Point Ladder, Reaching the Top 5
Despite a tough loss to the Timberwolves on Christmas Day 2024, Klay Thompson etched his name further into NBA history. The sharpshooter surpassed Reggie Miller’s career three-point total, securing his place among the league’s elite long-range marksmen.
Thompson now sits at fifth on the all-time three-point list with 2,561 made threes, setting his sights on Damian Lillard, who currently occupies fourth place. While Lillard’s active status and prolific scoring make him a challenging target, Thompson’s renowned accuracy and scoring prowess shouldn’t be underestimated.
The top three spots remain firmly held by legends: Ray Allen (2,973),James Harden (3,022),and Stephen Curry,Thompson’s Splash Brother, who leads the pack with an astounding 3,871 three-pointers.
It’s worth noting that thompson’s journey to the top 5 has been impacted by two injury-ridden seasons, effectively halting his three-point tally. Considering his average of 225 threes per season, adding those lost opportunities to his current total would catapult him to second place, highlighting the remarkable consistency of his shooting prowess.
while Thompson’s historic achievement was a radiant spot, the Mavericks ultimately fell to the Timberwolves 105-99, demonstrating that even individual brilliance can’t always guarantee victory.
Klay Thompson’s climb: A Shooting Legend in the Making?
Today we’re joined by Hall of Fame shooting guard, Ray Allen, to discuss the remarkable achievement of Klay Thompson reaching the top 5 on the all-time three-point list. Mr.Allen, welcome to the show!
Ray allen: thanks for having me. It’s always a pleasure to talk hoops!
Moderator: Klay’s ascent has been truly extraordinary, especially considering the two injury-riddled seasons he’s battled through. Do you think those lost opportunities weigh heavily on his mind as he chases the top spots?
Ray allen: Absolutely. Injuries are a shooter’s worst nightmare. Timing, rhythm, muscle memory – all of it can be disrupted. I know firsthand how frustrating it is indeed to be sidelined when you’re feeling that groove. That said, klay’s dedication is undeniable. He’s a tireless worker and his work ethic has been key to his comeback.
Moderator: His consistency is truly remarkable. Averaging over 200 threes per healthy season is no small feat. Do you see him catching Damian Lillard for fourth place this season?
Ray Allen: It’s definitely within reach. Damian is a relentless scorer, but Klay’s catch-and-shoot game is lethal. If the Warriors can provide him with the looks, I wouldn’t be surprised if he closes the gap.
moderator: Of course, the top three spots are held by yourself, James Harden, and the man Klay calls “Splash Brother,” stephen Curry. Curry’s at a whole other level, isn’t he?
Ray Allen: Stephen’s reinvented the game. He’s pushed the boundaries of what’s considered a good shot, and his range is simply ridiculous. It’s an honour to be on that list with him, and James Harden’s a phenomenal player in his own right. He’s a master of drawing fouls and converting from tough angles.
Moderator: Speaking of Steph, they lost a close one to the Timberwolves on Christmas Day,despite Klay’s historic achievement. Does this highlight that team success always trumps individual accolades?
Ray Allen: Every player wants to win championships. That’s the ultimate goal. While individual milestones are important, they’re sweeter when they contribute to team success.
Moderator: Thanks for your insights, Ray. What advice woudl you give to Klay as he continues his journey up the three-point ladder?
Ray allen: Stay focused, Klay. Stay healthy. Enjoy the journey. You’ve already etched your name amongst the great shooters of all time. Now, go out there and chase those championships.
