Strengelbach native Mathias Lüscher has made a name for himself as a documentary filmmaker in recent years. With his latest work “Kosmos Büne Huber”, produced for the SRF documentary series, he focuses on the frontman of the Bern cult band Patent Ochsner – and with it the eventful life of an artist that goes far beyond the music.
Mathias Lüscher accompanied 62-year-old Büne Huber for almost two years for the documentation. At home, in the studio, on tour and behind the scenes: the film provides intimate insights into Huber’s creative process, such as the creation of the classic “W. Nuss vo Bümpliz” or the emotional stories behind the latest album “Tag & Nacht”. The documentary not only shows Huber’s musical genius, but also how painting and music are inextricably linked in his life.
A film about losses and new beginnings
Working on “Kosmos Büne Huber” came during a challenging phase for the artist. The death of his long-time friend and fellow musician Wädi Gysi, a serious bicycle accident and health problems marked this time. Nevertheless – or precisely because of this – Lüscher manages to portray Huber’s creative journey in an authentic and touching way. In addition to Huber himself, his wife Sue, daughter Hannah and other companions have their say, giving a comprehensive insight into the musician’s life. “Matthias’ films always convince me with his sensitivity and charm,” says Büne Huber about the Strengelbacher’s latest work.
Broadcast and concert
“Kosmos Büne Huber” will be broadcast on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 8:10 p.m. on SRF two. This is followed by Patent Ochsner’s concert at the Gurten Festival 2024 – a musical highlight that perfectly rounds off the impressions of the documentary. RAN
Mathias Lüscher began his journalistic career as a freelance sports editor at the “Zofinger Tagblatt”. He has been working as a freelance video journalist and producer of documentaries, reports and advertising films for 14 years now. With his company “Matthias Lüscher GmbH” he has implemented numerous projects, including the award-winning film “Patent Ochsner – A journey through the past into the future”, which earned him the Bern Foundation for Radio and Television Television Prize in 2023. The jury particularly praised the intimate camera work, which allows the audience to directly experience the band’s creative process.
