Episodes of racism in football continue to occur more frequently than they should. The last victim was Manchester City defender Kyle Walkerwho has reported a racist attack on Instagram.
The player posted the screenshot of a user wishing him death with a racist insult, after City’s defeat against Juventus in the Champions League. An attack that served the City captain to reflect and leave a message to social media managers.
“No one should ever be subjected to the kind of vile, racist and threatening abuse I received online after last night’s game. Instagram and the authorities must stop this for the good of all those who suffer this abuse. It is never acceptable. To our fans, we will continue working as a team to do better, to improve and move forward together,” he noted in his complaint.
In the post that Walker reproduces, a user tells him verbatim: “Bro, you could fuck off and die, you stupid black.”. An insult to which the player himself wanted to draw attention.
Manchester City also issued a statement to condemn the racist attack towards their player. “Manchester City strongly condemns racist insults that Kyle Walker suffered on the internet after last night’s game. We refuse to tolerate any type of discrimination, whether in stadiums or online. “We will offer Kyle all our support after the disgusting treatment he has received,” the English club said.
