Smashing played in Almere against the leader of the competition, FIT Almere. Last time the score was 7-1 for Almere and that score was also on the scoreboard this time. The only point from Wijchen was provided by the mixed doubles Golinski / Maes.
Coach Paul Vennekens had to do without the two youth players Inger Pothuizen and Casper Spaans who won a bronze medal in Ibiza at the European Championships for under 19 years.
Doubles
In the men’s doubles, a new couple entered for Smashing, the Belgians Freek Golinski and Marijn Put. They narrowly lost to Alex Vlaar and Dyon Van Wijlick: 21-18, 22-20.
For the women, Lieke Maes and Maureen Zewald played against Diede Odijk and Kirsten de Wit. Despite the nice weather, they lost the first set 21-16. The second set ended 21-14.
Spicy party
In the singles, Rune van Dalm competed against Dennis Koppen. The first set went to the Almere player (21-11); Van Dalm offered more resistance in the second, but with 21-18 the score was 3-0.
Zewald played a tough match against a well-playing Alida Chen. The first set was evenly matched, but was decided in favor of the home team: 24-22. The two went to FIT 21-17
All lines
Leonie Rovers started very well against Odijk. She quickly took a big lead and eventually won 18-21. The second set went to Odijk (21-7), in the third the FIT player had to do everything she could to win 21-15.
In the second men’s singles match, Marijn Put competed against Noah Haase. A player he has often played against at international youth tournaments. Put had to admit his superiority against a young and fast-paced Haase: 21-17, 21-17.
In the mixed doubles, Van Dalm formed a new pair with Rovers. They did well and managed to play a good match against De Wit and Dyon van Wijlick, but lost the match 21-14 and 21-13.
Great party
For the final mix, Golinski and Maes had to compete against the internationally experienced duo of Cheryl Seinen and Alex Vlaar. The Wijchen players played a great match and won the first set 16-21. In the second set, the experienced duo from Almere took the upper hand and won 21-11.
The third set was evenly matched, but the Almere duo took a small lead at the end. With a 19-15 deficit, the Wijchen team served. What no one expected, they succeeded: they were able to win the set 21-19 and thus ensured the only point for Smashing.
Stand
After this weekend, Smashing is sixth in the Premier League. In 2 weeks, Saturday December 14, the Wijchen team will play at home against competitor VELO Badminton (7 p.m.).
