Kazakhstan Football Federation Elects New Leader
Teh XXVI Conference of the Football Federation of Kazakhstan recently convened under the leadership of Erbol Myrzabosynov, Minister of Tourism and Sports. A pivotal moment in the conference was the election of a new president for the federation, as reported by Astana TV.
Three prominent figures from the Kazakh football landscape vied for the prestigious position: Altai Daumov, representing the Almaty Region Football Association; Erbol Kairov, hailing from the Akmola Region Football Association; and Marat Omarov, nominated by the Astana Football Federation Association.
Sayan Khamitzhanov, the General Secretary of the Football federation of Kazakhstan, initiated the proceedings by outlining the agenda. Subsequently, each candidate presented their vision for the future of Kazakh football. Following the formal presentations, representatives from regional football associations, football organizations, and academies cast their votes. The results decisively favored marat Omarov, who emerged as the new president.
Minister Myrzabosynov extended his congratulations to Omarov,expressing optimism for his tenure. He emphasized the significance of football in Kazakhstan, noting its immense popularity both domestically and globally. the Minister expressed confidence that Omarov’s leadership would propel the national team to new heights and usher in a new era of progress for Kazakh football.
Highlighting the importance of innovation and strategic planning, Myrzabosynov stressed the need to focus on international collaborations, nurturing world-class athletes, coaches, and referees, and cultivating a robust pipeline of future talent.
This leadership transition comes at a time when football enjoys widespread participation in Kazakhstan. Over one million individuals actively engage in the sport, with a critically important portion (537,000) residing in rural areas, demonstrating the sport’s far-reaching appeal.

Bakyt: Well, Marat is a respected figure in Kazakh football circles, with a strong background in the Astana Football Federation. He has a clear vision for the future of the sport, and I believe his appointment is a positive step forward.
The election process saw three strong candidates. Did you have a preference going into the vote?
Bakyt: All three candidates were credible and brought something valuable to the table. altai Daumov’s experience with the Almaty region Football Association was notable, and Erbol Kairov has a solid understanding of the game at the grassroots level. Ultimately, though, Marat’s leadership qualities and strategic vision resonated with the voters.
Minister Erbol Myrzabosynov spoke about the importance of international collaboration and developing world-class athletes. What are your thoughts on the current state of Kazakh football on the international stage?
Bakyt: We’ve made progress, there’s no doubt whatsoever.We’ve seen glimpses of our potential, but consistency at the highest level remains a challenge. We need to invest more in youth development, create pathways for talented players to progress, and attract top-tier coaching.
Minister Myrzabosynov also emphasized the need for a robust pipeline of future talent. Do you see a strong grassroots foundation in place to support this?
Bakyt: It’s encouraging to see over a million individuals involved in football across Kazakhstan, including a significant number in rural areas.This demonstrates the sport’s popularity and potential. But we need structured programs, qualified coaches, and accessible facilities to truly nurture this talent pool.
This leadership change comes at a crucial moment for Kazakh football. What are your hopes for the next chapter under Marat Omarov’s leadership?
Bakyt: I hope to see a renewed focus on technical development, both for players and coaches.we need a clear strategy for international success, and a commitment to investing in the future generations of Kazakh footballers. if Marat can deliver on his vision, I truly believe we can achieve great things.
