It has already been reported that Eiduka, Latvia’s leading cross-country skier, took part in the first competition of the season last weekend. She finished 50th in the 20-kilometer classic with a joint start at the first stage of the Scandinavian Cup, and also finished 31st in the 10-kilometer freestyle with a separate start.

“I thought and hoped that it would be better, but from the very beginning in the distance of 20 kilometers, when the pace was quite high, I understood that it would be difficult, because the distance is quite long for the first time,” said the athlete.

“So I took a slightly more relaxed pace and rode the whole distance to the end at my own pace, to make it like a good training for the competition, without going too high, so as not to be too much and too crazy,” she explained.

The Latvian athlete revealed that she was worried before the 20-kilometer competition, because she did not know what to expect from herself after recovering from overexertion.

“I don’t think it will be so bad. The body is not capable of going faster at the moment. Mentally, it is difficult to accept the position I am in. But I had to start, because you need intensity and competition, where you can start with higher heart rates, work in competition mode,” Eiduka pointed out.

Latvia’s leading cross-country skier missed the first three stages of the World Cup. It has already been reported that at the turn of the year she plans to compete in the prestigious “Tour de Ski” series.

After the third stage of the World Cup in Davos, skiers will compete in the World Cup stage on the Italian track in Toblach. At the end of December, the prestigious “Tour de Ski” series will begin, after which the skiers will hold another World Cup competition on the Italian track in Valdifème.

In the second half of January, the World Cup competitions will be held in France, Switzerland and Italy, and in February, skiers will compete in the Swedish city of Falun, as well as hold the world championship in the Norwegian city of Trondheim. In March, the stages of the World Cup will be held in Oslo and Tallinn, but in the final stage at the end of March, the athletes will start at the Lahti track in Finland.
