Mexican Archers End 2024 Ranked Among the World’s Best
Mexican archery is ending 2024 on a high note, with four of it’s top athletes securing spots in the world’s top 10 rankings. Alejandra Valencia, Matías Grande, Maya Becerra, and Dafne Quintero have all demonstrated remarkable skill and consistency throughout the year, solidifying Mexico’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the international archery scene.
Alejandra Valencia, fresh off her bronze medal win in the team event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, currently sits in fourth place in the women’s recurve category with 234.75 points. Only three archers stand ahead of her: South Korea’s three-time olympic champion Lim Sihyeon, American Casey Kaufhold, and India’s Deepika Kumari.
Matías Grande, the reigning continental champion and Olympic representative, holds the ninth position in the men’s recurve category with 184.75 points. Grande’s impressive performance this year includes a gold medal victory alongside Valencia at the Yecheon World Cup, highlighting his dominance within the Mexican team.
In the compound women’s category, Mexico continues to shine. Maya Becerra occupies the second spot globally with 302.75 points, trailing only great Britain’s Ella Gibson. Dafne Quintero rounds out the top 10 for Mexico, securing the eighth position with 218 points.Following a triumphant 2024 filled with international competitions, the Mexican archery team is now gearing up for the 2025 National Selection. This four-phase event, commencing in the second week of January, will determine the athletes who will represent Mexico in the upcoming season. Mariana Avitia: Without a doubt. Alejandra is a phenomenal archer. She’s consistently performing at the highest level, and with her experience and unwavering focus, I have no doubt she’ll be fighting for that number one spot.
