The NFL Playoff Race Heats Up: Can the dolphins Still Make It?
The battle for a spot in the 2024-2025 NFL playoffs is intensifying. While nine teams have already secured their berths – three division winners and six Wild Card contenders – the race for the remaining spots is fierce.
The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, and Green Bay Packers have all punched their tickets to the postseason. However, several teams are still fighting for a chance to join them.
In the AFC East, the Miami Dolphins (7-8) face an uphill battle. Dominated by the 12-3 Buffalo bills, their division rivals, the Dolphins’ only realistic path to the playoffs is through a Wild Card berth.
As of Week 17, if the regular season ended today, the playoff picture would look like this:
(1) Kansas City Chiefs: Enjoy a first-round bye.
(7) Denver Broncos vs. (2) Buffalo Bills
(6) Los Angeles Chargers vs. (3) Baltimore Ravens
(5) Pittsburgh Steelers vs. (4) Houston Texans
Can the Dolphins Still Make the Cut?
while the Dolphins’ playoff hopes are fading, they are not extinguished. They need a combination of favorable outcomes to secure a Wild Card spot:
- Win Out: The dolphins must win their remaining two games against the Cleveland Browns and the New York Jets.
- Colts Stumble: The Indianapolis Colts (4-10-1) need to lose at least one of their next two games against the New York Giants or Jacksonville Jaguars.
- help from Rivals: Either the Denver Broncos (4-11) must lose both of their remaining games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs, or the Los Angeles Chargers (8-7) must lose both of their remaining games against the New england Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders.
The Dolphins’ playoff destiny is no longer entirely in their hands, making their path to the postseason a challenging one.

Can the Dolphins Dive into the Playoffs? An Interview with Coach Mike Martz
The NFL playoff picture is tightening with each passing week, and several teams are clawing for those coveted wildcard spots. One team fighting for survival is the Miami Dolphins, clinging to a 7-8 record. To understand their chances, I sat down with former NFL coach and analyst, Mike martz, for his expert insight.
moderator: Coach Martz, thanks for joining us. Let’s jump right in. The Dolphins are facing a steep climb to reach the playoffs. Realistically, what are their chances?
Coach Martz: Well, it’s certainly an uphill battle. They’re going to need a lot to fall into place. Winning out is a must, and even then, they need help from other teams who are also in the hunt. The Colts losing, the Broncos stumbling, maybe even the Chargers dropping a game or two – those are all scenarios that need to play out in Miami’s favor.
Moderator: Absolutely.Looking at theAFC east, the Bills are seemingly unstoppable. Do you see the Dolphins being able to overcome that divisional dominance, even next season?
Coach Martz: The Bills are a force to be reckoned with, no doubt. They have a potent offense, a solid defense, and tremendous coaching. The Dolphins will need to address some key weaknesses if they want to compete with the Bills long-term.
Moderator: Many analysts point to Miami’s defense as a vulnerability. What do you make of their defensive performance this season?
Coach Martz: The Dolphins have shown flashes of brilliance defensively, but they’ve also been inconsistent. They need to find a way to put together a reliable, dominant unit week after week.
Moderator: Let’s shift gears to the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa has shown promise, but he’s also struggled with injuries. What are your thoughts on Tua’s future with the Dolphins?
Coach Martz: Tua has talent, there’s no question about that. But staying healthy is crucial for any quarterback, especially a young one. If he can stay on the field and continue to develop, he has the potential to lead this team to success.
Moderator: Coach Martz, with the current landscape, do you think the Dolphins are a playoff-caliber team right now?
Coach Martz: I think they’re on the cusp. They have the offensive firepower, but they need to solidify their defense and
find more consistency. Next season, with a strong off-season and some key additions, I believe they can make a legitimate playoff run.
Moderator: Thank you for your insightful analysis, Coach Martz. Now,let’s open this up to our readers. What are your thoughts on the Dolphins’ playoff chances? Do you agree with Coach Martz’s assessment? share your opinions in the comments below!
