The Chicago Cubs have made an unexpected turn in their offseason moves by reaching an agreement with left-handed pitcher Matthew Boyd, who will join the National League rotation after playing in the American League his entire career.

According to Jon Heyman of New York PostBoyd’s contract is for two years and has a guaranteed value of 29 million dollarswith the possibility of reaching up to 30 million in total if you meet certain performance bonuses. The deal marks an important step for the Cubs as they look to strengthen their pitching staff for the 2024 season.

Boyd, who turned 34 in February, returns to the Major Leagues after major surgery that sidelined him for a time. Although he began the season as a free agent, Boyd signed with the Cleveland Guardians in June, when he was still without a team. Due to his recovery, he did not debut until mid-August, at which point he began to show a fairly solid level of performance.
In 39 2/3 innings during the final weeks of the season, Boyd He posted a 2.72 ERA and a 3.29 FIP in eight starts, allowing him to regain his value on the market.
