The premier MMA organization in Europe, KSW, is making its highly anticipated return to France, bringing with it a monumental event: the first-ever “clasico” of French MMA. In a captivating showdown, reigning champion Salahdine Parnasse, the pride of Ile-de-France, will defend his lightweight title against the formidable Wilson Varela, hailing from Marseille. this clash of titans mirrors the legendary rivalry between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille, pitting two fighters intimately familiar with each otherS styles, having even shared training sessions in the past.

The French Clasico: A Chat With MMA Legend, Cheick Kongo
Welcome back, fight fans, to another edition of “In the Octagon”! Today, I’m joined by the legendary heavyweight fighter and former KSW Heavyweight Champion, Cheick Kongo.
Cheick, thanks for joining us today. We’re all buzzing about the upcoming KSW event in France, the “Clasico” as they’re calling it, with Salahdine Parnasse defending his lightweight title against Wilson Varela.
CK: It’s great to be here! This KSW event is shaping up to be something special. The rivalry atmosphere between these two fighters reminds me of some truly passionate matchups I’ve seen throughout my career.
Indeed! Parnasse and Varela are both exceptional fighters. Coach, having achieved so much in your own career, what do you see as parnasse’s biggest strength heading into this bout?
CK: Salahdine is a complete fighter. He’s got excellent striking, good ground game, and a killer instinct. He’s also very well-rounded, able to adapt his style to different opponents. I think that versatility will be key against Varela.
Varela is certainly no slouch either. He’s quickly risen through the ranks. Do you think he has a chance to upset Parnasse?
CK: Varela’s a tough matchup for anyone. He’s hungry, powerful, and relentlessly aggressive. He’s got that “nothing to lose” mentality that can be dangerous. If he can press the action and keep Parnasse on the back foot, he could definitely pull off the upset.
The card features several other exciting matchups as well, including Davy Gallon against Marcin Held.
CK: Gallon is another French standout with a ton of talent.Held is a veteran with a lot of experience, so that will be a good test for Gallon. it’s a great chance for him to prove himself on the big stage.
The event promises an electric atmosphere, mirroring the classic Parisian football rivalry between PSG and Olympique de Marseille.
CK: Absolutely. It’s going to be an incredible night of MMA. The energy in the arena will be unmatched. This event is a testament to the growing popularity of MMA in France.
I couldn’t agree more, Cheick.
What are your predictions for the main event?
CK: This is a tough one to call. both fighters are at the top of their game. I think it’s going to be a close, back-and-forth battle. Ultimately, I give Parnasse a slight edge due to his experience and all-around skills. But Varela has the tools to make it a real fight.
Thank you so much for your time, Cheick. It’s been a pleasure getting your insights on this highly anticipated event.
CK: My pleasure! Now let’s get ready for this “Clasico”!
