Today the Santa Eulalia sports center hosted the first control of the promising competition and kata categories for the U-11 (youngest) and U-13 (youngest) categories. This event, of a training nature, had the participation of more than a hundred judokas from all the clubs on the island, including Club Judo Sant Jordi, Dojo Ibiza, Samyd, Gokyo Ryu and JL Pollo, and was supervised by various teachers and coaches.
On the other hand, yesterday Saturday the 75th anniversary gala of the Royal Spanish Federation of Judo and Associated Sports was held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. During this event, Juan Francisco Blázquez Mayans and Antonio Ferruz Pérez, both from the Sant Jordi Judo Club, were awarded the 6th DAN black belt in recognition of their long-standing contribution as national teachers and coaches.
In addition, today, Sunday, at the Gran Canaria Arena Pavilion, the Spanish veterans championship was held. Judoka Dymtro Kshnir, from the Samyd judo club, won the bronze medal in the M5 category (between 50-54 years old) over 100 kg. In his weight category, Kshnir competed in a four-man league, where he faced competitors from Cantabria and two representatives from the Canary Islands, resulting in three contested bouts.
