The professional football disciplinary committee has dismissed the much-discussed red card that Go Ahead Eagles player Enric Llansana received last Sunday in the away match against FC Utrecht. The match ended 3-3 with a goal from the home team deep into extra time.
The incident in the ninth minute of the meeting in the Cathedral City led to a lot of commotion. Llansana, who had shot his team to 0-1 a few minutes earlier, said afterwards that he did not think he had committed a foul at all.
In never-before-seen VAR images that referee Bas Nijhuis recorded yesterday Today Inside showed, it is clearly visible that the Spaniard floored Utrecht attacker Paxten Aaronson. He didn’t hit the ball.
Llansana laughs, Llansana cries: wonder goal and red card within ten minutes
According to referee Sander van der Eijk, this was a matter of depriving a scoring opportunity, but that decision is now being reviewed by the disciplinary committee.
According to the disciplinary committee, it cannot be determined with sufficient certainty on the basis of the images that a clear scoring opportunity was denied. That is why the red card is still crossed out.
Research into Bosvelt’s criticism
At the same time, the professional football prosecutor starts a preliminary investigation into statements made by Paul Bosvelt, the technical manager of Go Ahead Eagles. After the match, he spoke disparagingly about the arbitration and posted an image of a raised middle finger on Instagram.
“What a shameful display by the referee today,” he wrote. “First of all, a ridiculous red card. Extra time 5 minutes that no one can explain and add another 2 minutes. Shown for the first time!! KNVB and referee gang. You are destroying football!!”
Bosvelt has now apologized to the football association, but that does not mean the preliminary investigation is over.
Go Ahead general manager Jan Willem van Dop also expressed his anger about the arbitration and decided to resign from his positions at the KNVB with immediate effect. He was annoyed by both the red card for Llansana and the extended extra time, he said on Sunday evening. Studio Football.
