“He gained the trust of his teammates”: Rivers on Young’s development
Before the NBA Cup semifinals, Bucks coach Doc Rivers praised the development of Hawks star Trae Young. According to Rivers, the 26-year-old, who has often been criticized, is showing significant progress this season – even apart from his offensive strength.
After the Milwaukee Bucks practice on Friday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, coach Doc Rivers emphasized how much Trae Young has developed as a leader for the Atlanta Hawks. “He’s gained the trust of his teammates. This team loves playing with him, that’s obvious. I couldn’t say that in the past, but now they love playing with him,” Rivers explained.
Young himself commented on his perception and rejected criticism of himself: “The narrative that I can’t do certain things or that I’m too angry or frustrated is simply not true. I think with the young team we have, and the results we’re delivering now, people are starting to see how we play.”
Trae Young: Focus on team success
The Hawks, who have won seven of their last eight games after a slow start, are also benefiting from Young’s leadership, according to coach Quin Snyder: “Trae is an important part of the development of our young players. We know what a talented offensive player he is, but “He understands that we can only be successful as a team if everyone does their part defensively – including him.”
Rivers highlighted how the 26-year-old has worked to minimize his defensive weaknesses. “He studies the game intently and finds ways to stay out of situations where teams are targeting him.”
