New super team in Phoenix? Suns and Butler with mutual interest

According to Shams Charania, there is mutual interest between the Phoenix Suns and Jimmy Butler, but a possible trade is difficult due to the contractual situation. The Golden State Warriors are also monitoring the situation but are acting cautiously.

Devin Booker and Kevin Durant are considered “untouchable,” which is why a move would only be possible through a Bradley Beal trade. However, Beal has a no-trade clause that requires his approval. The 30-year-old, who is under contract until 2026, has struggled with injuries this season and has not been at his previous level of performance since his last All-Star nomination in 2021.

The Golden State Warriors have also been linked to Butler but are taking a wait-and-see approach. “The Warriors are in a ‘let’s see’ situation,” Shams Charania said. “They are evaluating how the team develops with Jonathan Kuminga in the starting lineup and the recently signed Dennis Schroder.”

While the Mavericks and Rockets apparently show no interest in Butler, a move to the Brooklyn Nets in the summer of 2025 is also considered unlikely. Despite having enough cap space, the Nets are not considered the preferred option for Butler’s potential free agency, according to Charania. Butler could become a free agent as early as next summer as he has a “player option” for the 2025/26 season.
