He credits the university’s exceptional public education program for helping him become bilingual and thrive academically.
On the field, Fortin’s dedication and hard work have paid off. He has started at both right and left guard this season, even gaining valuable experience at center during practice. His versatility and adaptability have been crucial to the Huskies’ success, culminating in an 8-4 record – their best performance sence 2010.
Fortin acknowledges the impact of playing under head coach Jim Mora, a former NFL coach with the Atlanta Falcons and seattle Seahawks. Mora’s experience and leadership have instilled a professional atmosphere within the team, preparing players for the demands of higher levels of competition.

Chris: Thanks for having me!
Moderator: Chris, your journey to this moment, playing in the Fenway Park Bowl against UNC, is truly remarkable. Coming from Saint-René, Quebec, to UConn in the midst of a global pandemic, adapting to a new language and culture, that takes unbelievable grit.Can you tell us a little about that transition, and how UConn specifically helped you thrive both on and off the field?
Chris: You know, it was definitely a challenge coming to UConn. Everything was so different – the language, the culture, even the pace of life.But the support system here was phenomenal. UConn’s public education program was absolutely instrumental in helping me become bilingual. It wasn’t just about learning the language; it was about understanding the culture, the nuances.And beyond that, the coaching staff and my teammates, they were like a family. They embraced me, pushed me to be better, on and off the field.
Moderator: It’s clear that your dedication and hard work have paid off. Starting at both right and left guard, even getting some experience at center, that’s a testament to your versatility. This season showcased UConn’s extraordinary 8-4 record, the best since 2010. how much has playing under Head Coach Jim Mora contributed to the team’s success?
Chris: Coach Mora brings a wealth of experience,having coached in the NFL. he’s instilled a professional atmosphere within the team, demanding excellence in every aspect of the game.he’s taught us discipline, preparation, and accountability – values that you need to succeed at any level, whether it’s college football or beyond.
Moderator: Speaking of “beyond,” the upcoming bowl game against UNC, a Power 4 program recently led by legendary Bill Belichick, presents a monumental challenge. how are you and the Huskies preparing for such a formidable opponent?
Chris: This is a game we’ve been working towards all season. We understand UNC is a powerhouse program, but we’re playing with confidence. We’ve been focusing on our strengths, polishing our execution, and studying UNC’s game film extensively. It’s definitely going to be a physical battle, but we’re ready for the challenge.
Moderator: This bowl game could be your last chance to showcase your skills to NFL, UFL, and CFL scouts. you’ve mentioned your desire to continue your football career. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Chris: You know, my goal is to play football provided that my body allows. Whether it’s in the NFL, UFL, CFL, or anywhere else, I want to keep competing at the highest possible level. Football is my passion, and I’m ready to embrace whatever opportunities come my way.
