NFL: Aaron Rodgers will not be benched, the Jets swear

Aaron Rodgers will once again be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets, despite persistent rumors that he will soon be benched.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said via videoconference that he still has confidence in Rodgers, who celebrated his 41st birthday Monday, because he gives the Jets the best chance to win, in his opinion.

“We have complete confidence in Aaron, we really do,” Ulbrich reiterated.

Rodgers completed 21 of 39 pass attempts for 185 yards and touchdown passes to Davante Adams and Isaiah Davis. However, he did throw an interception that was returned 92 yards for Leonard Williams’ major in the Jets’ 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

After the loss, Ulbrich floated the possibility that Rodgers would be benched after he asked him if he would soon consider a change at starting quarterback.

“Not at the moment,” he said.

“After analyzing yesterday’s match, I had the impression that we had seen the real Aaron Rodgers, at times, in the first half, he mentioned on Monday. This was also the case, at times, in the second half. And, obviously, he didn’t play up to his talent at times, and I know he would tell you the same thing.

“So, we always consider that he is the one who gives us the best chance of success, and therefore he is our (starting) quarterback,” added Ulbrich.

The Jets will face the Dolphins in Miami next Sunday.
