NFL: Bill Belichick would have inquired about the position of coach of the Jets

For a moment, the New York Jets were without a head coach and Bill Belichick was looking for a job… But that pairing didn’t come to fruition.

According to ESPNthe former New England Patriots pilot would have contacted the organization to inquire about the available position. However, there would have been no formal discussions on the subject according to the New York Post which leaves doubt about Belichick’s real interest. He would have simply done his homework to evaluate his options before possibly closing an agreement with the University of North Carolina.

The history with the New York troupe was still enough to raise questions about a possible association. Belichick left the Jets in 2000 and recently voiced criticism of owner Woody Johnson following the firing of Robert Saleh after just five games.

We will remember that Belichick was supposed to take over from Bill Parcells, but he left the organization and according to what was circulating, it was because he did not want to work for Johnson who had just bought the team.

The now 72-year-old was forced to sue the organization to terminate his contract with the Jets, which led to a trade with the Patriots. We know the rest, he won six Super Bowls with the team before finding himself without a job in the NFL this season.

His 333 regular season and playoff victories are surpassed only by Don Shula’s 347 triumphs. Belichick ranks first in NFL history with 31 playoff games won.

Belichick interviewed last offseason for the Atlanta Falcons head coaching job, but the job eluded him and he stayed away from the NFL this season.
