The Berlin Olympic Stadium will host a total of three NFL regular season matches in the fall of 2025, 2027 and 2029, the North American American Football League and the German capital announced this Wednesday in a joint press release.
The exact date of the 2025 meeting and the two franchises involved will be announced later. Germany hosted for the first time meetings of NFL in autumn 2022 in Munich at the Allianz Arena, between the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the legend of discipline, Tom Bradyin front of nearly 70,000 spectators.
In the fall of 2023, the Waldstadion in Frankfurt hosted two matches (Miami Dolphins against Kansas City Chiefset Indianapolis Colts against New England Patriots), and a month ago, the meeting between the New York Giants and the Carolina Panthers took place in Munich.
“Germany has a rich tradition with American football and the NFL has a history with the city of Berlin”estimated Roger Goodell, patron of the NFL.
Built for 1936 Olympics and renovated for World Cup 2006 football, the Berlin Olympic Stadium can hold 74,500 spectators. Since its renovation, the stadium has hosted the final of the 2006 World Cup and theEuro 2024the final of the 2015 Champions League as well as the 2009 Worlds athletics.
The NFL has been relocating regular season matches since 2009, first to London, then to Mexico (from 2016), then to Germany, and most recently in 2024 to Brazil.
Starting with the 2025 season, up to eight regular season matches can be played abroad. For 2025, two will be played in London, one in Madrid, and one in Berlin. Other host cities may be announced later, explained the NFL.
