Nico Rosberg’s team, rosberg X Racing (RXR), has announced its departure from teh Extreme E electric SUV racing series. This decision comes after a successful tenure,culminating in championship victories adn a notable impact on the motorsport landscape.
The Extreme E series, launched in 2021, reignited the rivalry between former Formula 1 titans lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Both motorsport legends established their own teams, X44 and RXR respectively, competing in thrilling races across diverse global locations.Both Hamilton and Rosberg tasted victory in Extreme E, with X44 securing the championship title in the 2023 season, a year that also saw legendary drivers like Sébastien Loeb and Carlos Sainz participate.

However, motorsport is constantly evolving, and it seems Rosberg X Racing’s vision doesn’t align with the series’ direction towards hydrogen power.
Moderator: Extreme E is transitioning to hydrogen power and rebranding as Extreme H. Do you think this shift is beneficial for the series moving forward?
Sébastien Loeb: It’s an interesting move, that’s without a doubt. Hydrogen technology holds promise for a sustainable future, but the infrastructure and cost implications still need to be carefully considered.Extreme E has always been at the forefront of innovation,and this transition could be a bold step towards a greener motorsport landscape.
Moderator: From your perspective as a driver, what are the primary challenges and opportunities presented by this change to hydrogen power?
Sébastien Loeb: Switching to a new powertrain always comes with its own set of challenges. Drivers will need to adapt to the different characteristics of a hydrogen-powered vehicle, and teams will face technical hurdles in developing and refining these new machines. Though, this also presents a unique opportunity for innovation and advancement in motorsport technology.
