Nina Lourghi Shines at National Badminton Tournament
Young badminton talent Nina Lourghi recently traveled to Oullins,near Lyon,to compete in the third stage of the French Badminton Federation’s Elite Youth Circuit.Accompanied by her coach Hugo baran and the Normandy Badminton League collective, Nina delivered impressive performances across multiple categories.
In the U17 women’s doubles, Nina partnered with Paulina Carthery from the PACA League. This new pairing proved successful, culminating in a strong victory and a commendable third-place finish for Nina.
Nina’s success continued in the U17 mixed doubles, where she teamed up with Jean Mimale portail from the NAQU League for the first time. Demonstrating remarkable adaptability, Nina secured victories in straight sets, propelling her and Jean to the finals. Despite winning the first set, they ultimately fell short, losing 21-18, 15-21, 15-21.
meanwhile, several other Argentan badminton players participated in the second departmental adult circuit held in St Germain du Corbéis. Fourteen athletes represented Argentan, showcasing their skills in various categories.
Paul Jacquette dominated the men’s singles Series 1, securing a decisive victory.Marie Schneppé reached the finals in the women’s singles, while gabin Compas, Jérôme Lecomte, Valentin Jacquette, Shahîn Oihala, Justine Mercier, and Charlène Hofman faced tough competition and did not advance past the group stage.
In mixed doubles, Paul Jacquette and Ambre Dudouit reached the semi-finals in Series 1, mirroring the achievement of Anne-Sophie and Gabin Compas in Series 3. Philippe Jacquette and Marie Schneppé, Justine Mercier and P. Poisson, Emilie Latour and Florian Tribodet where unable to progress beyond the group stage. Unluckily, Charlène Hofman and Jérôme Lecomte had to withdraw due to Jérôme’s injury.

Hugo: Thanks for having me! It’s always a pleasure to discuss Nina’s progress and the exciting future of French badminton.
Indeed! Nina recently made waves at the third stage of the French Badminton Federation’s Elite Youth Circuit in Oullins. What were your initial thoughts on her performance?
Hugo: I was incredibly impressed with Nina’s performance. Her dedication and hard work are truly paying off.
She realy shone in the U17 Women’s Doubles. This new partnership with Paulina Carthery seemed to work like a charm, securing them a well-fought third-place finish. Couldn’t agree more!
Can you tell us a bit about how this partnership came to be and what you see as it’s strengths?
Hugo: This was indeed a new partnership forged for this specific tournament. Both Nina and Paulina are incredibly talented individual players,and we saw an opportunity to leverage their strengths in doubles. Paulina’s powerful smashes complement Nina’s remarkable court coverage and strategic play magnificently.
It seems like the chemistry clicked quickly.
Moving onto mixed doubles, Nina partnered with Jean Mimale Portail for the first time. That was a bold move, bringing together players from different leagues. What led to that decision?
hugo: Part of our strategy is to expose our players to diverse playing styles and challenge them to adapt. Jean is a talented young athlete with excellent reflexes. We believed their combined skills and fresh dynamic woudl make a strong team.
Their journey to the finals was remarkable, winning their matches in straight sets. Regrettably, they lost in a closely contested final. How did Nina handle that defeat?
hugo: Nina is incredibly resilient. While disappointed, she understands that these experiences are crucial learning curve. She’s already analyzing the final match with a keen eye, identifying areas for improvement.
It’s that kind of resolute spirit that sets her apart. Looking ahead, what are your coaching goals for Nina?
hugo: nina has immense potential. We’re focusing on refining her technique, enhancing her tactical awareness, and preparing her mentally for the competitive pressures at higher levels. Our ultimate goal is to see her represent France at the international stage.
