We’d like to find a rematch between Karl-Anthony Towns and Franz Wagner on Wednesday’s schedule after the NBA greats put on a show in a competitive back-and-forth that ended with a Knicks victory despite 30 points from Wagner, the game’s best scorer.
There are plenty of games on the menu, and Wagner and Orlando are the road favorites in Philadelphia.
We’ll look elsewhere for some attractive midweek picks.
Indiana Pacers vs. Brooklyn Nets, 7:30 p.m. ET
The line has moved a bit since the opening and the Pacers have an even better value at -2, which was the line at dawn on Wednesday. Well, there’s a reason for that. Multiple reasons, even.
The Pacers have a 2-10 road record and have not won outside of Indianapolis since a 134-127 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 4. Indiana isn’t just losing these games. They trailed Toronto by 17 points at the start of the first half after an 18-2 run that opened the scoring.
Our optimism is not due to a secret we discovered about the matchup against Brooklyn. More precisely, it is due to the players the Nets will not have and who will open the door for the Pacers to win (and score in abundance) in a rare road date.
Leading scorer Cam Thomas is out with a left hamstring strain and the Nets are unlikely to have any additional key pieces, including Cam Johnson (ankle) and Dorian Finney-Smith (ankle), two other starters.
Tyrese Haliburton’s bafflingly patchy offense should be much improved on Wednesday after scoring 30 points in Toronto, and Pascal Siakam is thriving here with the Nets without their best wing defenders.
Let’s make this trio supporting the Pacers.
Indiana Pacers -2; Pascal Siakam Over 30.5 Pts + Reb + Ast; Tyrese Haliburton Over 31.5 points + Reb + Ast. (+494 on FanDuel)

No. 10 Alabama vs. No. 20 North Carolina, 7:15 p.m. ET.
Turnovers stumbled the Crimson Tide and dropped them from a more prominent position, and North Carolina is searching for an identity just a month into the season.
A big game and a big national game in Chapel Hill should be the showcase the Tar Heels need to turn things around. At home, as less than two-point favorites (-1.5), we face North Carolina in the SEC/ACC Challenge.
This is a rematch of last spring’s NCAA West Region semifinal, with Alabama capturing that Sweet 16 matchup en route to the Final Four.
North Carolina (4-3) had a mediocre performance at the Maui Invitational and finished with a 1-2 record. Alabama (6-2) has been tested regularly, with wins over ranked teams like Illinois and Houston, but lost 83-81 to Oregon in Las Vegas.
The high-paced game could easily challenge the over-under of 175.5. But without trusting either team to take care of the ball consistently, we’ll avoid it and aim for a home win for the Tar Heels.
North Carolina -1.5 (-115 on FanDuel)

No. 2 Auburn contra No. 9 Duke, 9:15 pm ET
Duke is a young and growing team, with talent at every position and an edge it has lacked in recent seasons.
Auburn has experience and takes on the personality of an underdog team when doubted. Ask Houston or any Maui Invitational team.
What the Tigers don’t have is a win over Duke. Auburn has a record of 0-3 in this matchup.
With two teams with good shooters and a couple of strong defensive teams on the interior, we’re going to put the bottom line aside and focus on the energetic, offensive start we expect from both sides.
More than 69.5 points in the first half; Kon Knueppel More than 19.5 points + Assist + Reb (+203 on FanDuel)
