The Real Oviedo community mourns the loss of Pedro Parés, a former player who, though his time with the club was brief, was part of a historic era. Parés participated in five matches during the 1962/63 season,a campaign that saw Oviedo achieve a remarkable third-place finish in La Liga under the guidance of coach Ochoa. This accomplishment marked the last time the club secured a podium position in Spain’s top flight.
During his time in Asturias, Parés, a Catalan forward, contributed one goal while wearing the blue jersey. He arrived at Oviedo alongside José Datzira, another player who sadly passed away recently, after a triumphant four-year stint with Sabadell in the second division. Their performances for Sabadell earned them a well-deserved chance to play at a higher level. Following his year in Oviedo, Parés continued his career with Europa, a Catalan club competing in the second division.
After retiring from professional football,Parés chose to settle in Asturias, making it his home for the remainder of his life. He passed away in Oviedo at the age of 89.
A funeral service will be held today at 6:00 PM in the basilica of San Juan El Real. The chapel of mourning is located at the Los Arenales funeral home.
