Parisian Resilience Shines Through in Triumph Over Limoges
Paris Basketball emerged victorious on Monday, defeating Limoges CSP 96-88 in a thrilling Betclic ÉLITE matchup. This crucial win, secured on home court, solidifies ParisS position as a top contender, trailing only Cholet and ASVEL in the league standings.
The Parisian victory was spearheaded by the dynamic duo of Tyson Ward and TJ Shorts. ward, bouncing back from a lackluster performance against ASVEL, delivered a career-high 30 points, shooting an impressive 7/13 from three-point range, while also grabbing 8 rebounds.Shorts, a constant force throughout the game, contributed 26 points and 9 assists, showcasing his remarkable playmaking abilities.
Limoges initially seized control, establishing a comfortable lead in the first quarter thanks to a stifling defense and well-executed offensive plays.Led by the sharpshooting Trevon Bluiett (18 points, 4/6 from three-point range) and captain Nicolas Lang (18 points), Limoges extended their advantage in the second quarter, culminating in a 10-0 run that gave them a 45-40 lead at halftime.
however, Paris, despite battling a recent virus outbreak that depleted their roster, refused to be deterred. Fueled by Nadir Hifi’s 13 points and Maodo Lô’s skillful drives to the basket, the Parisians clawed their way back, tying the game at 68-68 by the end of the third quarter.
The final quarter witnessed Paris elevate their game to another level. A decisive 7-0 run stunned Limoges, who struggled to maintain composure in the crucial moments. Ward delivered the final blow with a spectacular dunk, sealing the victory for Paris and ending their recent losing streak.
This defeat further highlights Limoges’s struggles on the road. Despite valiant efforts from Souley Boum (10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and Alexandre Chassang (4 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists), Limoges was unable to contain the dominant ward-Shorts duo in the closing minutes. This loss marks Limoges’s 17th consecutive defeat away from home, a stark contrast to their performance at their home court, Beaublanc, since Jean-Marc Dupraz took over as coach.
Paris Basketball now faces a quick turnaround, traveling to Spain on Friday to take on Baskonia in a challenging EuroLeague matchup. Despite recent adversity, the Parisians have demonstrated their resilience and determination, proving they remain a force to be reckoned with.
Tyson Ward’s Career Night Fuels Paris Basketball’s Triumph Over Limoges CSP
Welcome back, sports fans! I’m excited too be here today with former EuroLeague champion and basketball analyst, Elena Torricelli,
to dissect a thrilling Betclic ÉLITE clash that saw Paris Basketball overcome a tenacious Limoges CSP squad.
Elena, welcome to the show!
Elena Torricelli: Glad to be here! That Paris-Limoges game was a nail-biter, wasn’t it?
Absolutely! Paris emerged victorious, 96-88, thanks in large part to tyson Ward’s career-high 30 points. What were your initial thoughts on ward’s performance, considering his relatively quiet game against ASVEL just days before?
Elena Torricelli: Well, it’s clear Ward has the talent. He knows how to shoot and was red-hot from beyond the arc against Limoges. it’s great to see him bounce back like that.some players need that short memory, and it looks like Ward has it.
True! And probably fueled by that ASVEL loss wanting to prove his worth. And pushing him even further, Paris was down by 10 points at halftime. how did they manage to claw their way back into the game, especially with that virus outbreak affecting their players?
Elena Torricelli: Hang on, let’s not forget about TJ Shorts! He was a playmaking machine throughout the game, notching 26 points and 9 assists. That dynamic duo provided Paris with a serious offensive punch. But you’re right to highlight their resilience – battling through illness, trailing at halftime, it shows a lot of heart and character.
Exactly! Now, let’s talk about Limoges. They started incredibly strong, particularly Cheick Sow in the post. What do you think contributed to their downfall in the closing minutes?
Elena Torricelli: I think Paris simply outplayed them in the final quarter. Paris started getting stops on defense and converting those into easy baskets, while Limoges seemed to lose their composure. They missed some key shots and turned the ball over too much. Plus, that 7-0 run by Paris was a killer blow.
Limoges, now, is facing a tough reality – 17 straight losses on the road.
How much of this is down to the absence of a true homecourt advantage in Beaublanc, a factor, coincidentally highlighted by councillor Delphrein.
Elena Torricelli: I think it’s a combination of factors. Beaublanc, when they’re playing well, is a tough place for opponents. It’s clear coach Dupraz has his team playing inspired basketball at home. But on the road, they lack the same intensity and focus. It’s a psychological barrier they need to overcome.
If you were advising Limoges, what would be your immediate focus to change this road slump?
Elena Torricelli: For Limoges, I’d say they need to find ways to stay composed under pressure on the road. They need to execute their game plan flawlessly and have more belief in their abilities. A few wins on the road could change their mindset dramatically.
Great points, Elena. Now, let’s shift gears back to Paris. This win keeps them firmly in the hunt for a top spot in the Betclic ÉLITE. What’s your take on their chances moving forward, especially with an important EuroLeague matchup against Baskonia looming?
Elena Torricelli: Paris is a team on the rise. They have a potent offense, and their defense is improving. If they can stay healthy and maintain this momentum, they’re definitely contenders for the Betclic ÉLITE title. The Baskonia Game will be a great test. Baskonia is tough, but Paris is capable of pulling off an upset. It’s going to be a great game!
Thank you so much,Elena, for sharing your expert insights. It’s been a pleasure having you on the show.
