Peretz Eyes the Number One Spot at Bayern
Daniel Peretz, the 24-year-old goalkeeper who joined FC Bayern from Maccabi Tel Aviv for €5 million in 2023, has made a strong impression since his arrival. Having already featured seven times for the Bavarian giants, including six appearances this season, Peretz has clearly established himself as the preferred choice over veteran Sven Ulreich.
In a recent interview with Bild, Peretz openly declared his ambition: “My ultimate goal is to become the number one goalkeeper at FC Bayern.” This aspiration comes after a resounding 5-1 victory against RB Leipzig, where Peretz showcased his talent.
Peretz acknowledges the challenge of following in the footsteps of the legendary Manuel Neuer, but remains undeterred. He understands that achieving his dream requires “patience, relentless hard work, and unwavering belief in my abilities.” He emphasizes the importance of consistently delivering strong performances and expresses his current contentment with life in Munich, both on and off the pitch. While Neuer is currently sidelined with a broken rib and expected to return in the new year, Peretz’s impressive form has quelled any talk of a winter loan move, despite interest from clubs both domestically and internationally. He firmly stated in late November that a loan is not on his mind.
However, the landscape could shift significantly after the season concludes, particularly with Neuer’s contract extension until 2026 looming. Recent reports suggest that Peretz could be loaned out, with Bayern Cologne potentially signing Jonas Urbig as Neuer’s backup.
Should Peretz spend the 2025/26 season elsewhere, his return could coincide with Neuer’s retirement, setting the stage for a captivating duel with Alexander Nübel for the coveted starting position. Nübel, the German international, is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart until 2026.
Peretz remains pragmatic about the future, acknowledging the fluidity of the situation: “We can’t predict what will happen in the summer. A lot can change between now and then.”
The Gloves Are Off: A one-on-One with Former Bayern Munich Goalkeeper Oliver Kahn
Welcome back, football enthusiasts! Today, we have a real treat for you. Joining us is none other than legendary Bayern Munich and German national team goalkeeper,Oliver Kahn.
Oliver, thanks for taking the time to chat with us.
oliver Kahn: It’s always a pleasure to talk football.
Let’s dive right in. We’ve been watching Daniel Peretz rise through the ranks at Bayern, and his ambition is clear – he wants to be the club’s number one. From your own experience leading the line between the posts at Bayern, what advice would you give a young keeper in his shoes?
Oliver Kahn: Well, first and foremost, peretz needs to stay grounded and focused. It’s fantastic that he has the confidence and ambition to aim for the top spot. That’s essential. But Bayern is a demanding club with immense pressure. He needs to be ready to work harder than ever, be patient, and learn from those around him.
Moderator:
He’s certainly making his case with some strong performances, especially considering the shoes he has to fill in Manuel Neuer.
Oliver Kahn: Absolutely. Neuer is a legend, and replacing him won’t be easy. There’s no doubt about that. But Peretz has shown glimpses of real talent. He’s got good reflexes, he’s commanding in the box, and the fact that he’s already established himself ahead of Ulreich indicates a promising trajectory.
Moderator:
He’s shown he’s not shying away from the challenge, either. He’s publicly stated his goal of taking the starting position. Do you think that’s a brave move or potentially counterproductive?
Oliver Kahn: I admire his boldness. In my day, I was always outspoken about my ambitions. It shows confidence, and it can even motivate you to push harder. The key is to back it up with consistent performances. If Peretz continues to impress, then his words will gain weight. If not, they might ring a bit hollow.

Speaking of consistency, there’s a lot of speculation about Peretz’s future. Some rumours suggest a loan move could be on the cards next season, especially with Neuer’s contract extension until 2026. What do you make of this?
Oliver Kahn: It’s a tricky situation. On one hand, goalkeepers need regular playing time to develop and mature. A loan spell could be beneficial, giving Peretz experience and a chance to shine elsewhere. Conversely, staying at Bayern and learning from someone like Neuer, even from the sidelines, is invaluable.
Moderator: you’ve been in both positions – the established starter and the young keeper itching for a chance. What advice would you give to both Peretz and Bayern in this scenario?
Oliver Kahn: For Peretz, I’d say keep your head down, keep working hard, and be prepared for whatever comes your way.
As for Bayern, they need to make a decision that’s best for both the club and the player. A loan move might be the right option to facilitate Peretz’s growth, but it’s essential to ensure he returns a stronger goalkeeper.
Moderator:
Ultimately, Oliver, what do you think the future holds for Peretz at Bayern?
Oliver Kahn:
It’s too early to say definitively. It depends on several factors – Peretz’s growth, neuer’s recovery and form, and Bayern’s overall plans.
But one thing is certain: Peretz has the talent to be a top goalkeeper. If he continues to progress, he has a real chance to carve out his legacy at Bayern Munich.
