Podium for the campelleros Mateo Fernández and Miguel Payá in the Spanish badminton doubles championship

This weekend the Spanish U17 Badminton Championship was held in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva). Campelleros Mateo Fernández and Miguel Payà took the podium to collect the title of doubles champions, a well-deserved victory after several years of hard work.

From the time they played the first match until reaching the final, they won the rounds comfortably, in the semifinals against the Galician couple formed by Xoel Álvarez and Adrián Rodríguez, whom they only allowed to score 18 points in the first set and 15 in the last. In the final, playing against the seeded couple formed by Gonzalo Isabal-Alex tur from the CB Huesca-Es Vedrá clubs.

Also in the individual they demonstrated their high level, reaching the quarterfinals, with Miguel defeated by the runner-up Yaidel Gil, 21-17 and 21-19 and Mateo giving in to three sets (15-21 / 21-17 / 8- 21) against the finalist Gonzalo Isabal.

140 players participated in the competition, while in the doubles modality there were 28 players. In two weeks, our players will travel to Oviedo to face other greats in the Spanish under-19 championship.
