Next Gen Stars: An Interview with Coach Gianmarco Pozzecco
The next Gen Cup is back, and Italy’s young basketball stars are ready to shine. Joining us today is a man who knows a thing or two about nurturing talent and achieving greatness on the court: Coach Gianmarco Pozzecco, former Italian national team player and current AZS Koszalin coach. 👋 Coach Pozzecco, welcome!
Pozzecco: Thanks for having me.It’s always a pleasure to talk basketball, especially when it comes to developing young talent.
Moderator: Absolutely. the Next gen cup is a fantastic initiative. What are your thoughts on its impact on Italian basketball’s future?
Pozzecco: Look, this tournament is more than just games. It’s an investment. It gives these young players a platform to showcase their skills, learn from experienced coaches, and compete against the best their age group has to offer. It’s a crucial stepping stone to serie A and national team representation.
Moderator: I couldn’t agree more. Pollini Brescia U19 is one team facing a tough challenge in Rimini. They’ve got Treviso, Trapani Shark, and Trieste to contend with. what do you think are their biggest strengths going into this stage of the competition?
Pozzecco: Brescia has always had a strong youth development program. I’ve watched some of their games, and I’m impressed with their work ethic and team spirit. They might be underdogs in this group, but they have the potential to surprise people. I’d say their biggest strength is their willingness to learn and fight for every possession.
Moderator: Hustle and heart can go a long way. Now, you mentioned how meaningful experienced coaching is in tournaments like this. How crucial is a coach’s role in shaping these young players, both on and off the court?
Pozzecco: Massive. A coach isn’t just there to draw up plays. They’re mentors, strategists, and motivators. They help players understand the game mentally as well as physically, build discipline, and develop the character needed to succeed.
Moderator: That’s a truly insightful perspective. Speaking of character, there’s a lot of pressure on young athletes in these high-stakes tournaments. How can coaches help players manage the pressure and perform at their best?
Pozzecco: Great question. First and foremost, open communication is key. Coaches need to create a supportive habitat where players feel agreeable expressing themselves and asking for help. Secondly, fostering a strong team bond can help alleviate individual pressure.
reminding players to focus on the process rather than the outcome can be incredibly helpful.
Moderator: Wise words,Coach. for our readers, what advice would you give to young basketball players who aspire to reach the professional level?
Pozzecco: Believe in yourselves, work hard, listen to your coaches, and never stop learning. The road to the top is challenging, but with passion and dedication, anything is possible.
Moderator: Powerful words to end on. Coach Pozzecco, thank you so much for your time and your insights. We wish you and your team all the best in the upcoming season.
Pozzecco: Thank you! I appreciate the prospect.
