In this second match of group B of the group stages of these ATP Next Gen Finals, the American Alex Michelsen faces the Frenchman Luca Van Assche. Alex Michelsen, 20, won his first match easily against his compatriot Nishesh Basavareddy, aged 19, as he won their duel 3 sets to 1. Although he lost the first set 2-4, the American did not give up after that since he was determined not to lose any more rounds in order to win the necessary points following his course in Jeddah. Part of the top 50 best players this year, Alex Michelsen should have no trouble qualifying for the semi-final by quickly winning this second match as well.
For his part, Luca Van Assche created a surprise by winning his duel against the Chinese and 50th in the world Juncheng Shang. However, he did not come far from a much closer duel during the tie-break of the 4th and final round. This victory must nevertheless have done good for the Frenchman who had 4 consecutive defeats at the end of the season and who had not played since his defeat in the round of 16 in Metz against Cameron Norrie, 49th in the world.
