Red Bull’s Shocking Decision: Sergio Perez Exits Before the 2025 Season – What It Means for F1

Before the 2021 season, Red Bull made an agreement with Sergio Perez, who was left without a seat at that time, and the Mexican pilot played an important role in his teammate Max Verstappen’s championship that season.

Perez also helped Red Bull capture two consecutive constructors’ championships in 2022 and 2023.

However, he was never able to challenge for the drivers’ title and regularly fell behind Max Verstappen.

It came to such a point that Perez could only finish this year in eighth place and was overtaken by his teammate Verstappen in all races except one qualifying.

Red Bull signed a new 1+1-year contract with Perez to help him improve his performance, but things did not go well for the Mexican driver again.

Although Perez looked for ways to improve his performance throughout the year, he was in danger of losing his seat after a disastrous 2024.

As a result, Red Bull has decided to terminate its current agreement with Perez ahead of the 2025 season. After the negotiations, the parties agreed on a common point and terminated their relationship.

Although Red Bull offered Perez an ambassadorship, the experienced pilot did not accept it and severed ties with the company.

Although Red Bull has not officially announced who will take the seat after Perez’s departure, this name is expected to be Liam Lawson.

With no vacant seats on the grid, Perez will have to take at least a year off from his F1 career, which started with Sauber in 2011, or retire.
