Today, we’re joined by Sensei Emily Chen, a respected judo coach with over 20 years of experience and a strong advocate for the holistic progress of her students.
Sensei Chen, thank you so much for joining us today.
Sensei Chen: It’s my pleasure. Always happy to chat about judo and it’s impact on the lives of young people.
Let’s talk about the recent end-of-year party hosted by the Judo Club Revelois. Their dojo was transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with decorations and a visit from Santa Claus. this seems like more then just a typical holiday party. What’s the significance of such events for a judo club?
Sensei Chen: absolutely. While judo itself teaches discipline and focus, events like this foster a strong sense of community and belonging within the club. Judo isn’t just about techniques and competition; it’s about building positive relationships, learning respect, and celebrating achievements together.
The article mentions that the club organizes workshops and educational programs beyond judo training. How do these initiatives contribute to the overall development of the young judokas?
Sensei chen: We believe in a holistic approach to development.Judo teaches valuable life skills like self-confidence, perseverance, and respect. But expanding that to include workshops on topics like nutrition, teamwork, and even conflict resolution equips our students with a broader skillset that can benefit them in all aspects of life.
Captivating point. You mentioned respect. The article also highlighted the importance of inclusion at the Judo Club Revelois. How does the club ensure that every member feels valued and respected, regardless of their skill level or background?
Sensei Chen: Every student, regardless of their experience or ability, brings something unique to the mat. We create an environment where everyone is encouraged to learn, grow, and support each other. We emphasize the importance of humility and respect, not just for opponents but also for fellow teammates and coaches.
It’s inspiring to see judo clubs like Revelois taking such a dedicated approach to player development. What would you say is the most vital lesson a young judoka learns on and off the mat?
sensei Chen: I’d say it’s the power of perseverance. Judo teaches us that setbacks are unavoidable, but it’s how we respond to them that defines us.It’s the same in life. Overcoming challenges, both on and off the mat, builds resilience and drives personal growth.
Sensei Chen, thank you for sharing your insights with us. These are valuable lessons for young athletes and adults alike.
