the essential
The passing of the Olympic flame, the incredible number of clubs, licensees in all sporting disciplines… Revel clearly loves sport. And the municipality seeks to transmit this virus to young people.
In the schools of Revelwe don’t mess around with sport. Since last year’s success with the discovery workshops, the partnership between the town hall, local clubs and schools has continued to strengthen.

Since the start of the school year in September, sports associations have been offering discovery workshops to schoolchildren from kindergarten to CM2, from the Orée de Vaure, Roger Sudre and Couffinal schools. Among them, faithful people who already offered this type of initiation last year: table tennis, rollerblading, zumbini, boule sport, pickleball, tai chi, judo… And new ones want to join the adventure to transmit the passion to little ones from athletics, kenpo, and even chess!
All these clubs volunteer to give lessons in the evening as part of the leisure center associated with the school (Alaé). As a bonus, registered schoolchildren also discover other sporting activities with the town hall’s sports instructors, Audrey Clerc and Franck Angellini.
“We are increasing the range of our activities, and that can generate additional members for the clubs,” summarizes Yannick Barbe, director of Roger Sudre’s Alaé, delighted with the initiative.

Johnny Salvetat, president of Revel Lauragais Table Tennis, works on motor skills with the little ones, with other club volunteers. “We do it mainly out of passion, to pass on knowledge,” he explains. “We learn through teaching, we pass on a taste for sport.” It also provides an introduction to chess, a cerebral sport par excellence. Even if the game is redesigned to adapt to age categories, he sees real changes in some students. “All this also teaches them strategy, and an essential concept in life: to think before acting,” he summarizes.
The schoolchildren seem delighted, and some are already developing a passion for the sport.
