Björklöven’s goalkeeper Joona Voutilainen went out in the second period.

Then the J20 goalkeeper Erik Liljequist, 18, was called in – in the middle of a dinner out on the town with his parents.

– It was a very exciting evening, I did not expect that at all, says Liljequist to Sportbladet.

Just in time for the third period, Erik Liljequist, 18, took his place on Björklöven’s bench with one taped to his back.

Joona Voutilainen, 28, had left the ice during the second period break and instead Melwin Asp, 19, had to take a seat in the cage in the match against Mora.

Then the J20 goalkeeper Erik Liljequist was called in – while he was out on the town having dinner with his parents.

– I had just had training, and after training I was told that I would be the third goalkeeper today. So I went out to eat with my parents and thought “nothing will happen, right?”. But they called me and I was quickly there, he tells Sportbladet.

He has a Peruvian mother and a father with both Swedish and Swiss roots. He got the surname from his Swedish grandfather.

He himself was born in Barcelona, and began his hockey career in FC Barcelona.

After several years in Switzerland, Liljequist was recruited to Björklöven’s J20 team ahead of the season and during the autumn has been in goal in twelve games.

– The Swedish junior league is much better than the Swiss junior league. So I thought, well, why not?

Are you enjoying yourself?

– Yes, it’s very nice, but very dark and cold.

Bounced back after the historic loss

The last time Mora visited Umeå, they suffered a historic loss against Björklöven. The home team then broke the Allsvenskan record when they defeated Mora with 11–0.

After that, the teams met one more time, this time in Mora, where Björklöven won 3–2 in overtime.

This time they managed to bounce back, namely Mora defeated Björklöven 4–1.

– It would have been even better if we had won… but it was an exciting evening, really. I didn’t expect that at all, says Erik Liljequist.
