Rodingen badminton teams perform well against strong opponents

The two teams from Badminton SG Roding/Chamerau played the fourth and final preliminary round match day in a joint double home match day in the Rodinger triple gym. There were strong opponents on the program for both the first and second teams, so we could still be very satisfied with a total of two draws.

The first team first had to face the BOL league leader BC Grün-Weiß Obernzell, who demonstrated his expertise especially in the doubles, so that both men’s doubles and the women’s doubles lost in two sets. The guests also had the upper hand in the individual games. While Dominik Schmid and Louisa Heigl each lost in two sets, Jonas Habermeier played his way into the third set in second position, in which he also ultimately lost out.

Only Eiber prevails against the front runners

Only Johann Eiber was able to prevail after a long three-set match and secured the honorary point after Philipp Haller/Viktoria Heigl were also unsuccessful in the mixed doubles. Despite this 1:7 defeat, the Bayerwälder team were able to score more often in the second game against TSV Wolfstein, even if the first men’s doubles match was narrowly defeated by Dominik Schmid/Johann Eiber with 18:21 and 19:21. Jonas Habermeier and Philipp Haller managed a great comeback in the second doubles with a win each in the second and third sets. In both women’s singles and women’s doubles, the technical class of the 14-year-old young talent Alexia Nedelcu, who recently became German champion in singles and mixed U15, had to be recognized, so that Louisa and Viktoria Heigl were unable to win despite good rallies.

Johann Eiber showed strong nerves again in the third singles and won 22:20 and 21:19. After Jonas Habermeier had to let his opponent go first and Philipp Haller/Viktoria Heigl cleared the mixed doubles in three sets, it was now up to the outcome of the final first men’s singles to see whether they could still get a draw. Although TB individual expert Dominik Schmid unfortunately lost the first set 19:21, he was still able to turn the game around and won the following sets with 21:17 and 21:15. With thunderous applause from their teammates, they were able to score an important point for the table and are now in a solid fifth place over the winter.

Second just behind fourth place

Unfortunately, the second team had to do without regular player Martina Berra again. In the first game against Velburg, things didn’t go ideally despite the second men’s doubles being won without a fight. Michael Engl/Thomas Göstl lost in the first doubles in the third set and the women’s doubles Daniela Hohler/Wai Sze Tang also had no chance of winning.

In the individual games, Michael Engl impressed in second place and defeated his opponent in two sets. Enzo Sabattini struggled a bit with his recent game adjustments, but was still able to win his match in the third set. After Johannes Engl and Wai Sze Tang lost in their individual matches and Thomas Göstl/Daniela Hohler in the mixed doubles, they had to be content with a somewhat unfortunate 3:5 overall defeat.

In the second game against DJK Regensburg 3 they also had to do without Thomas Göstl. However, team captain Julian Hofer represented him brilliantly in the first men’s doubles and turned the game around again together with Michael Engl in sets two and three. The women’s doubles was also victorious this time, so that after losing the second men’s doubles they started the singles matches with a slight lead. But only Michael Engl was able to hold his own there with another strong performance. In the mixed doubles there was an exciting showdown when Julian Hofer and Daniela Hohler tested their teammates’ nerves with a 21:19 win in the third set.

With the 4:4 draw, the second team in the North District League is also in fifth place in the table, although they are only a blink of an eye – two more opposites in the set ratio – away from fourth place in the table, so everyone is already excited for the start of the second half of the season at the end of January are.
