## Portuguese Footballer Rúben Semedo Arrested for Alleged Domestic Violence
Rúben Semedo, the 30-year-old Portuguese-Cape Verdean footballer currently playing for Qatari club al-Khor, found himself in legal trouble onc again. Semedo was arrested by the public Security Police (PSP) in Lisbon on Sunday, December 29, 2024, facing accusations of domestic violence against his partner. [[2]]
According to a PSP source, Semedo allegedly held his partner against her will in their home. She managed to escape and seek help, leading to the filing of a complaint and the subsequent issuance of an arrest warrant. Semedo is currently detained in Lisbon awaiting a judicial interrogation scheduled for monday.
The source confirmed that the victim sustained minor injuries but is otherwise safe. This incident marks another chapter in Semedo’s troubled legal history.
In January 2023,Semedo was acquitted by an Athens court of gang rape charges stemming from a complaint filed in August 2021. While temporarily detained, the court ultimately steadfast insufficient evidence to support the charges.
Prior to this, in 2018, Semedo served 142 days in prison for kidnapping and assault while playing for Villarreal. He was initially sentenced to ten years for illegal detention, injuries, robbery, and illegal possession of weapons. however, his sentence was later reduced to five years, and he avoided further imprisonment by agreeing to an eight-year ban from entering Spain.Semedo’s career has taken him across Europe and the Middle East. After stints with prominent Portuguese clubs like Porto, Sporting, and Vitória FC, he played for Spanish teams Villarreal, Huesca, and Reus. He also had a spell with Olympiacos in Greece before joining Al-Khor on loan from Al-Duhail in July 2023.
