A victory, a party, alcohol and a fight. Here is the cocktail Fritz Lee, player of ASM Clermont-Auvergne, Top 14 club. As indicated this Wednesday by the local newspaper La Montagne, the 36-year-old rugby player was interviewed in the premises of the Clermont judicial police- Ferrand today to answer questions from investigators.
A complaint was filed against him by the waitress of a bar in the city at the end of October. After giving his version of the facts, third row Fritz Lee learned that he would be prosecuted for aggravated violence, probably in the spring.
As La Montagne explains, the facts date from October 19 after ASM’s victory in the championship against Vannes (55-33). The players, who went to celebrate their success in the city center, then attended a private party, not organized by the club. Without the motive being known, a fight broke out, involving Fritz Lee. The Samoan allegedly used a chair and injured a waitress at the bar. She was seriously injured in one wrist.
30 days ITT for the waitress
According to Dominique Puechmaille, Clermont-Ferrand prosecutor, the waitress benefited from an ITT (total incapacity for work) of 30 days. Fritz Lee allegedly admitted the facts in the premises of the judicial police. The ASM indicated that it had carried out internal sanctions. Still according to La Montagne, the rugby player would have been deprived of his ethics bonus.
“Faced with such actions, the club in no way condones the behavior of certain of its employees, whose exemplary behavior on and off the field is a fundamental and non-negotiable notion,” the ASM reacted in mid-November. “To date, one player has been sanctioned,” added the club, without saying more. Since that evening of October 19, Fritz Lee has played the following four matches, all as a starter. He has been playing in Clermont since 2013.
