Late this morning, CEO Luis Scola wanted to analyze the club’s situation with the press.
Here are his words:
«Obviously the situation is not good because the team is not playing well and the results are not arriving. We are worried, of course, and very busy understanding how to fix the situation, aware that there are still 20 games to go and we are optimistic that things can improve in time. We are aware that Varese is a place where there is a lot of passion and this is beautiful; we accept all points of view, all opinions and all criticism, as long as they remain within the limits of respect; limit that this week was crossed in stark contrast to our values which, humbly, we believe are the same as the majority of red and white fans. We will fill the seats that will remain empty in the arena by inviting the kids from the local mini-basketball clubs who will surely be happy to come to Masnago. We know that the situation is difficult and that the fans, like us, are sorry, but we are working every day to improve it; Those who want to fight with us are welcome, for those who don’t want to come there are no problems. We have already experienced situations like these and we will be able to experience them again because in basketball you win and you lose. Sponsors and partners? Those I spoke to support us in every way but obviously they too are not happy with the results. We understand the current negativity linked to the results, but we cannot accept some of the lies that have been told; why would we want to lose on purpose to go to A2? I’m a bit embarrassed to respond to things like this because it’s as if Coca-Cola no longer wants to sell drinks or McDonald’s food. Another point is linked to the skyboxes, a project born when I was still playing which was financed by regional and municipal funds and which is a 360° help for the club. The Mandole situation? We understand that fans and the press may ask questions, but these are decisions that we have to make by evaluating many aspects such as finances or the possibilities of the market and which will benefit society. In Pallacanestro Varese, the person who decides how to play is the coach, the person who chooses the coach is the management, the person who chooses the management is me, the person who chooses the CEO is the Board of Directors, this is how it is and always will be. We always monitor the market; it is not our objective to change, but when faced with difficulties, and as long as the change actually improves the team, we are always willing to change something, as we have already done this year by taking three players or going from 5+5 to 6+6″ .
