Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis pro Serena Williams, encourages followers to monitor their health after he recently had a “suspicious nodule” removed from his thyroid gland.
The businesswoman shared a photo of herself wearing a hospital gown and cap. On November 29, he posted on Instagram that he had undergone surgery to remove a thyroid nodule after observing it for four years.
“The nodule was growing larger and a recent biopsy showed it was very likely to turn cancerous,” he wrote in the caption. “My mother developed breast cancer around this age (41 years old), and eventually passed away from brain cancer about 10 years later. “I hate cancer.”
Ohanian wrote that she “wasn’t going to take any risks” and opted for surgery, which she said went “smoothly.”
It’s unclear when he had the surgery, but recent news about the surgery has made him “even more thankful this Thanksgiving,” he wrote.
“I got a call this morning saying that half of my thyroid gland, which has now been removed, is actually full of nasty nodules that have a very high chance of turning into cancer,” he said.
A thyroid nodule is a lump that can form in the thyroid gland located at the base of the neck. According to the Mayo Clinic. Most cause no symptoms and are not serious.
Ohanian added that the “worst part” of recovering from surgery is not recovering, but “I’ll be back next week.”
“And life has been amazing because I took my daughters to Disney World this week,” he wrote. In addition to photos of her surgery, Ohanian also shared photos of herself. His two daughters, Olympia (7) and Adira (1).
Serena Williams is sharing a health update. The tennis icon revealed in a candid TikTok video with fans that she recently had a benign cyst removed from her neck.
Concluding his Instagram caption, Ohanian shared a message to other fathers.
“Colleagues, men, keep your doctor’s promises. Especially if all of you are dads. “Happy Thanksgiving everyone,” he said.
