Serge: Thanks for having me. It’s great to be here.
Host: Everyone’s buzzing about your new role. What drew you to VVSB, particularly after such a triumphant run with Bernardus?
serge: it was a tough decision leaving Bernardus. We had a really good thing going there. But, you see, my contract included a clause that allowed me to explore opportunities with higher-level clubs, and when Arjan de Zeeuw reached out about the assistant coaching position at VVSB, it was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. VVSB is a club with a clear vision for success, a commitment to excellence, and a professionalism that impressed me from the very beginning.
Host: That’s fascinating. We’ve seen many young coaches like yourself prioritize ambition and growth. It’s inspiring to see.
Serge: Absolutely. I’m always eager to learn and push myself. Working alongside Arjan, someone with such a wealth of experience, is an incredible opportunity to develop my coaching acumen even further.
Host: You mentioned ambition. VVSB is a third-division club, but their aspirations are undoubtedly higher.what specific goals are you hoping to achieve during your time there?
Serge: first and foremost, our focus is on building a strong, cohesive unit, both on and off the field. We want to create a winning culture, a mentality that thrives on hard work and dedication. Of course, we want to see VVSB climb the ranks, but ultimately, success comes from creating a environment where players can flourish and reach their full potential.
host: Let’s talk about your departure from Bernardus. It seems like a bittersweet move.
Serge: Definitely bittersweet. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences and the relationships I built at Bernardus. I’m committed to seeing them finish the season strong. But, as any coach will tell you, the desire to progress, to take on new challenges, is always present.
Host: Speaking of challenges, you’ll be facing some familiar opponents in the third division, including FC Lisse and FC Rijnvogels. Any thoughts on those upcoming encounters?
Serge: It’ll definitely be fascinating. I know Jooste den hollander quite well from my time at [Previous Club]. It’ll be a good test,not just for me but for the entire VVSB squad.
Host: We’re all looking forward to those matchups. It sounds like your move to VVSB is a win-win for everyone involved.Final question, Serge: where do you see yourself in five years?
Serge: Honestly, I’m just focused on the present, on making a positive contribution to VVSB and helping us achieve our goals. But, long term, I definitely see myself continuing to grow as a coach, possibly at a higher level. The dream is to one day lead my own team, maybe even at the highest level of the sport.
