The sports metropolis of Berlin will host three games of the US National Football League (NFL) in 2025, 2027 and 2029.
The games of the most valuable sports league in the world in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin are supplemented by a sports development program for the sports of American football and flag football with a focus on youth and school sports.

“Our multi-year collaboration with the NFL not only provides goosebumps for the fans in the Olympic Stadium, but also gives the sports metropolis of Berlin a boost. For Berlin this means global visibility, numerous international guests, long-term impulses for tourism and high economic value creation. With a large sports development program, together with the NFL, we are also bringing the contactless version of flag football to Berlin schools and clubs. In doing so, we are strengthening both popular sport and inclusion in sport. Dear NFL, we are looking forward to great games and successful cooperation!”

We first played a preseason game at the Olympic Stadium 34 years ago, before it was home to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in the early 2000s. Now, with nearly 20 million NFL fans in Germany, we are returning to the city in historic fashion and playing a regular season game for the first time to start the next chapter in our relationship with Berlin.”
The Berlin Senate’s sports development program for American football and flag football, which accompanies the NFL games, includes intensive cooperation with Berlin schools. The trend sport of flag football, which will be seen at the Olympics for the first time in 2028, should be firmly anchored in school sports. Flag football can be played excellently as an inclusive sport and is suitable for all types of schools and many types of lessons.
The program creates a close connection between top-class and school sports and is run in cooperation with the American Football and Cheerleading Association Berlin-Brandenburg e. V. (AFCVBB). In addition, the state of Berlin will form the American Football Association of Germany. V. (AFVD) will also support its application to host the IFAF Mixed Flag Football World Championship 2026 or the Mixed Flag Football European Championship 2027.
