Galatasaray Extends Winning Streak to Six with Hard-Fought Victory Over darüşşafaka
Following their sixth consecutive league win against Darüşşafaka, Galatasaray Men’s Basketball Team Head Coach Yakup Seksekök and star player Angel Delgado shared their insights with the press.
Seksekök acknowledged the challenge posed by Darüşşafaka, highlighting their fast-paced style and offensive prowess. “We anticipated a tough match,” he stated. “Darüşşafaka excels in transition play, capitalizes on offensive rebounds, and scores efficiently. Recognizing this, we approached the game with intensity and built a significant 15-point lead. However, we afterward relaxed our defensive focus, allowing Darüşşafaka to exploit our lapses with effective fast breaks and open shots.”
The coach emphasized the importance of halftime adjustments. “we recognized that Darüşşafaka remained confident and steadfast,” Seksekök explained. ”Thay continued to challenge us until the final buzzer. The synergy between James, Buğra, and Will proved crucial, while the contributions of our new additions, Young and Roberts, at the power forward position were impactful. Their effective pick-and-roll plays and double-teams made a significant difference. the scoreline doesn’t fully reflect the competitiveness of the match. The recent victory against Yalova served as a wake-up call, reminding us of the need to maintain focus. We secured our sixth win and will continue our pursuit of success.”
Seksekök also praised the depth of his squad. “All 12 players are capable of contributing,” he noted.”However, managing playing time effectively is a challenge. Yaman has returned from injury in excellent form. Samet is also performing exceptionally well, demonstrating his value when called upon. The entire team is in good shape. With 200 minutes available, we strive to distribute playing time equitably, irrespective of whether a player starts or comes off the bench.”
Angel Delgado, who achieved a double-double in the game, commended Darüşşafaka’s fighting spirit. “I congratulate DAÇKA for their strong performance,” he said. “It was a competitive match. We executed our game plan effectively. While the second quarter presented some challenges, we regrouped and secured the victory. Our team is working cohesively, and the chemistry among the players is excellent. I’m thrilled to be part of this team.”

Coach Seksekök: Thank you for having me.It’s always a pleasure to discuss the game I love.
Me: Let’s dive right in. Your team just edged out a tough Darüşşafaka squad. They’re known for thier fast-paced offense and aggressive rebounding. How did you approach this matchup strategically?
Coach Seksekök: Darüşşafaka is a formidable opponent, no doubt about it. Their transition game and ability to capitalize on offensive rebounds are real threats. We knew coming in that we had to be disciplined defensively and match their intensity from the tip-off.
Me: You mentioned building a 15-point lead, but Darüşşafaka closed the gap significantly. What happened in the second half that allowed them back into the game?
Coach Seksekök: Honestly, I think we got a little complacent after building that early lead. We relaxed our defensive pressure, allowed too many open shots and easy fast breaks. Darüşşafaka is a team that never gives up, and they definitely made us pay for our lapses.
Me: That’s commendable that you acknowledge areas for improvement. Many coaches might shy away from that. Halftime adjustments are crucial. What changes did you make to regain control of the game?
Coach Seksekök: We emphasized the need to maintain our defensive focus and intensity. We talked about staying disciplined, closing out on shooters, and communicating better on defense. The synergy between James, Buğra, and Will proved crucial in the second half, and the contributions of our newer additions, Young and roberts, were impactful.
