Halle Lions Roar Back to Victory Against Steadfast Leverkusen
Seeking redemption after a tough loss to Freiburg, the Halle Lions started strong, dominating the early minutes against Leverkusen. River Faith Baldwin ignited the offense with a fast basket, putting the Lions ahead 11-2 within the first three minutes. Emma Stach extended the lead to twelve points with a successful three-pointer just two minutes later.
Leverkusen, though, refused to back down. They chipped away at the deficit, narrowing the gap to five points by halftime.The second half saw an even tighter contest. A free throw by Lisa Koop brought Leverkusen within four points, but a missed second attempt proved costly. The Lions capitalized on the opportunity, launching a 7-0 run that solidified their lead heading into the final quarter.
Taylah Rose Simmons, who led all scorers with an impressive 25 points, pushed the Lions’ advantage back to eleven points early in the second half. Leverkusen mounted a fierce comeback, closing the gap to just four points and even outscoring the lions 17-10 during a crucial stretch.
Though, the Lions, under the guidance of coach Timur Topal, demonstrated remarkable resilience. They responded with a decisive 10-2 run, effectively sealing the victory with a score of 64-51 in the 34th minute.
Simmons’ stellar performance was complemented by Emma Stach’s 18 points and five rebounds. Romy Bär,returning from injury,made a critically important impact against her former team,contributing seven assists while scoring two points.
