A Promising Future for archery in Puerto Rico
Filippo Clini, a renowned international archery coach, recently concluded a workshop in Puerto Rico, leaving with a highly positive impression of the islandS archery talent.the training sessions, organized by the Puerto Rico Archery league and held at the Media Luna Hotel in Comerío, brought together a group of dedicated archers, many of whom were new to the sport. Clini, a World Archery certified coach and former double world medalist (silver in 1991 and bronze in 1997), was impressed by thier eagerness to learn and commitment to betterment.
“The archers I worked with are exceptional,” Clini remarked. “They demonstrate a strong desire to learn and a remarkable dedication to the sport.If they continue on this path, the future of archery in Puerto Rico looks very shining.”
Clini, accustomed to working with elite athletes, believes this group possesses the potential to excel. During the workshop, participants engaged in a variety of activities, including technical instruction, field practice, and video analysis.
This marks Clini’s second visit to Puerto Rico. In 2013,he conducted seminars for youth and cadet archers under the auspices of the International Archery Federation.He expressed his willingness to return and continue working with the promising young athletes.
“I am eager to return and support their development,” Clini stated. “This group has a bright future, and I am committed to helping them reach their full potential.”
The Puerto Rico Archery League, affiliated with the National Field Archery Association (NFAA), has been making significant strides in recent years. In 2024, their archers achieved an impressive feat, securing six first-place finishes at a national event against competitors from all 50 states and US territories.
Looking ahead,the Puerto Rico Archery league will host a sectional event organized by the NFAA in mid-January,further solidifying the island’s position as a rising force in the archery world.

Erin: I’m not surprised at all! Puerto rico has always had passionate athletes, and archery is no exception. Having a coach like Filippo Clini dedicating his time and expertise speaks volumes about the commitment Puerto Rico is making to the sport.
Moderator: Absolutely. Clini specifically mentioned the dedication and desire to learn among the archers he worked with. Do you think that’s a crucial ingredient for success in archery, especially at a developing stage?
Erin: It’s absolutely essential. Archery is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. You need that inner drive, that willingness to listen and adapt, to truly excel. It seems like the Puerto Rican archers have that in spades!
Moderator: Now, the Puerto Rico Archery League is also making waves, achieving impressive results at national events.What do you think are the key factors driving their success?
Erin: I believe it’s a combination of factors.Firstly, having strong leadership within the league is crucial. They’re clearly doing an excellent job nurturing talent and providing opportunities. Secondly, access to experienced coaches like Clini is invaluable.And the passion and commitment from the archers themselves is driving this momentum.
Moderator: Looking ahead, the Puerto Rico Archery League is hosting an NFAA sectional event in January. How significant is an event like this for a growing archery community?
Erin: it’s massive! Events like this expose archers to high-level competition, allowing them to test their skills against the best. It also attracts attention and support from sponsors and the wider sporting community.
Moderator: We can’t forget Clini’s eagerness to return and continue supporting these athletes. What kind of long-term impact do you think ongoing international coaching collaborations can have on Puerto Rican archery?
Erin: The impact can be immense.consistent access to world-class coaching can accelerate the development of young archers, refining their technique, tactical understanding, and mental game.It can catapult Puerto Rican archery onto the world stage.
