Teams representing Temeke and Zanzibar were crowned champions at the Tanzania National Baseball and Softball Championships held recently at the Azania Secondary School Grounds in Dar es Salaam. Nine teams – four in baseball and five in softball – from Tanzania and Zanzibar participated in the competition.
Tanzania Baseball and Softball Association Secretary Abubakary Nachiwa said: “These championships showcase the exceptional talent we have but also opened doors for players to gain international exposure. Japanese partners were on hand to scout players for an upcoming tournament in Japan, which includes exhibition matches and competitive matches.”
In the baseball competition Temeke won after an intense final against Dodoma, bringing home the trophy. “Our victory is the result of strategic planning and great determination,” said Temeke captain Alpha Gabriel, according to The Respondent. “The competition was intense, as all regions came well prepared. However, we managed to win the competition.”
Zanzibar won the softball title, defeating runners-up Dodoma.
Tanzania is No. 81 in the WBSC/KONAMI Men’s Baseball World Rankings.
