“I knew it would be a tough fight. Granda is a talented judoka with impressive strength and technique. I had to be at my best, and thankfully, my experience and determination helped me secure the win.It was a grueling eight minutes, but I never gave up.”

“Of course, there were doubts. Coming back after a break, especially with the added uncertainty surrounding my contract, wasn’t easy. Though,I know myself.I know my capabilities, and I was willing to put in the work to be ready for this tournament. I had a point to prove, to myself and to my team.”

Looking ahead, you’ve spoken openly about your ambitions for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. What motivates you to continue pushing yourself at this stage in your career?
“The Olympic Games are the pinnacle of any athlete’s career. I have achieved so much, but the hunger for gold still burns within me. I want to show the world that I can still compete at the highest level. A sixth Olympic gold medal would be the perfect ending to my career.”
