During an interview with Tennis Actu, Guy Forget notably said all the good things he thought of Lucas Pouille. For the former Davis Cup captain, the Northerner has the arguments to shine again.

After experiencing the heights in 2019 (semi-final at the Australian Open), Lucas Pouille has since gone through a big air gap. But, at 30, the Frenchman hopes to have an end to his career that matches his immense talent. Returning from hell, the former 10th in the world is gradually enjoying the joys of the highest level. Currently 101st in the ATP rankings, Pouille has recently known that he will participate in the first Grand Slam of the 2025 season thanks to an invitation from the FFT. A great reward for someone who recently distinguished himself in Challenger (winner in Mouilleron le Captif and finalist in Saint-Tropez and Saint-Brieuc). A course that commands respect according to Guy Forget. “I really like Lucas. He’s a boy who went through difficult times, he had lost his taste for the game. He was even thinking about moving on. He showed humility, courage…”, recognized the former Davis Cup captain.

Forget: “Pouille has a winning attitude”

“These victories against players beyond the top 1,000, we had the impression of finding him when he was in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam. It’s important to find pleasure again. (…) We have to take our hats off to him for having had the humility to come back down. He is in the right car, the right process, the right approach now. We’re going to hope that his body leaves him alone. He was shaken up quite a bit by some glitches. He has found pleasure again, the essence of the game and I hope that we will find him at his best level in Australia, Forget subsequently declared, during an interview with Tennis Actu. (…) Seeing Lucas in the world top 20 again is not at all in the realm of a miracle, or impossible. If he plays a Tsitsipas, a Zverev… the guys won’t say to themselves “that’s good, it’s Lucas Pouille”. He has dynamite in his arm. He has a winning attitude. In good shape, he is not afraid of anyone. » We now hope to see Pouille make a name for himself in a few weeks in Melbourne.
