Recently, the third Argentinian Overseas Chinese “Unification Promotion Cup” football match kicked off in Buenos Aires.
Beijing’s “China Overseas Chinese Network” reported that this tournament is guided by the Chinese Embassy in Argentina, hosted by the Argentine Association for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China, hosted by the Argentine Chinese Football Association, the Argentine Women and Children’s Federation, the Argentine Chinese Aid Center, the Argentine Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, and the Argentine Chamber of Commerce. Co-organized by the Hongmen Association, the Argentine Chinese Education Foundation and other overseas Chinese groups in Argentina, a total of 10 teams of nearly 200 Chinese teenagers participated.
Wang Wei, Chinese Ambassador to Argentina, said that football emphasizes both individual skills and teamwork, which is highly consistent with the spirit of unity and cooperation advocated by the overseas Chinese community in Argentina. Chinese youth are the future and hope of the overseas Chinese community and an important bridge to enhance China-Arab friendship. We hope that the Chinese youth will take this football match as an opportunity to continuously improve their skills, sharpen their will, strengthen collaboration, enhance friendship, and jointly build harmony, unity, and Prosperous overseas Chinese communities.
Chen Jie, president of the Argentine Chinese Football Association, said that Argentina is a football powerhouse, and many Argentine Chinese teenagers love football. They hope that through football training and competitions, everyone can improve their football skills, cultivate teamwork and fighting spirit.
Yan Xiangxing, director of the Chinese Aid Center in Argentina, said that in recent years, cultural and sports activities for overseas Chinese in Argentina have flourished, demonstrating the positive, united and friendly spirit of the Chinese community and enriching the spare time life of overseas Chinese.
He Wenqiang, president of the Argentine Association for the Promotion of China’s Peaceful Reunification, said that football is both a media and a bridge. It is hoped that through this football match, Chinese teenagers can make friends through football and enhance friendship.
It is reported that this tournament adopts a group round-robin format, with 8 teams competing fiercely on the opening day. The championship competition will be held on January 5, 2025.
