The Paco de Lucía Auditorium was the scene of an event that celebrated the dedication and effort of Alcobendas’ veteran athletes. The first Master Sports Awards highlighted those who, in 2024, have left their mark both in competition and in promoting physical activity. A night to remember that positions Alcobendas as a sporting reference.
The gala, chaired by the mayor of AlcobendasRocío García Alcántara and the Councilor for Sports, Jesús Tortosa, awarded outstanding athletes in disciplines such as athletics, cycling, fencing, horse riding, judo, karate, swimming, archery and triathlon. Among the winners, Juan Antonio Ramoschampion and Spanish record holder in the 50 km road race, and Monica Berrocaloutstanding in outdoor heptathlon, shone for their achievements in athletics.
Names such as Jose Olivares y Javier Alonso in fencing, Angela Mayoral y Jose Manuel Lara in karate, and swimmers Miguel Ángel Tristan y Oscar Rodriguezwho have taken the name of Alcobendas to the national podiums.
The role of uniformed heroes
The Police category had a special moment with the champion agents of the European Police & Fire Gamesheld in Portugal. Carlos Merinowho won gold medals in several swimming events; Sara Aguirreunbeatable in women’s and mixed padel; and Fernando Barrosoalso a padel champion, stood out as examples of dedication inside and outside of their duties.
Alcobendas, city of sporting excellence
Councilor Jesús Tortosa highlighted the impact of these achievements on the projection of the city: “Our master athletes have taken Alcobendas to the topconsolidating ourselves as European City of Sports 2025.” This recognition, recently received in Brussels, not only celebrates individual successes, but also highlights the quality of local initiatives to promote sport at all ages.
Special awards: tribute to dedication and team spirit
The finishing touch to the evening was provided by the Special Awards. In this inaugural edition, the title of Best Master Male Athlete 2024 it was for the judoka Juan Luis Blancowith a record that includes the European championship, world runner-up and a national bronze. For her part, the athlete Angeles Luis Maroto was named Best Master Female Athlete 2024standing out for his medals in European and national competitions.
The women’s team Ecosport Triathlona project with more than 40 federated women, received the award of Special Master Award 2024consolidating itself as a national and international reference in the sports field.
