The PJU, Passage judo university, is organizing its second Christmas open tournament on Sunday, December 15, reserved for pre-chicks, chicks and youngsters. An opportunity to represent this very dynamic club.

Coming from the north, a region outside Ovalie, Joachim Hauterive, the current president of the PJU for three years now, converted to rugby by joining the Layrac team almost 15 years ago. His son had taken up judo. According to his expression, at the beginning, spectator of his offspring, he “waxed the benches”. Then he made his reconversion by joining his son on the tatami and in three years, he rose through the ranks to become a 1st Dan black belt! And to conclude his sporting commitment, he immediately became president of the club. Today, he trains regularly with his son who has the same level as him; father and son have joined in a common passion.

A training club

The PJU trainer, Loïc Auffret, 4th Dan black belt, is a pure product of the Passage dojo, the club he joined 21 years ago! The club, 2nd in the department in terms of its membership, today has around 160 members, the dojo is located within the Saint-Germes sports complex. It is renowned for its training club and in 2023, three of its young members have joined the hope center in Bordeaux.

Judo and rugby

Joachim, the president, has not forgotten his first love of rugby and regularly invites rugby clubs to come and participate in judo training, because he has noticed that, for example, learning certain turning maneuvers specific to the technique judo could be very useful in ruck and maul phases (phases of play with physical contact). Other similarities between the two sports, combat: when the philosophy of the land of the rising sun joins the friendly atmosphere of the South-West, with respect for the opponent.

The open tournament

This second edition will take place in the club’s premises and will put judokas from several clubs in Lot-et-Garonne, pre-poussins, poussins, and benjamins, into competition throughout the morning and in finals the afternoon. noon, in all about a hundred participants. Catering will be offered on site by club volunteers.

This tournament may be an opportunity to discover this sport whose three main principles stated by its founder Igoro Kano are, the best use of energy, mutual aid and mutual prosperity.
