Everything is ready or almost ready for the baptism of the first edition of Pink Waterpolo Youth European Leaguewhich will see five of the best European teams in the Junior category, i.e. under 19s with the possibility of fielding three under 20s, compete on the afternoon of Saturday 14th and the whole day of Sunday 15th December (free entry).
Since the trophy is reserved for the national junior champion teams of the main European nations, the managers of Locatelli Genova must have had great faith in their players when about a year ago they decided on this formula in the Youth League project which then won the tender “Genoa 2024 European Capital of Sport”trust repaid by the girls who, guided by Andrea Della Zuana they duly won the Italian category title last summer, in an eight-way final dominated until the final, clearly won against Sis Roma, thus deserving the honor of representing not only Genoa, but also Italy in the tournament which is about to begin.
The competition is of a high level, starting from Ferencvaros TC-Telekom, one of the most prestigious clubs in the world, a legendary sports club that boasts numerous players called up to the Hungarian national teams, up to Alimos, a constantly growing Greek team, which from this The year can boast our Claudia Marletta, the pillar of Setterosa, from Germany come the girls of SSV Esslingen, champions of all youth categories last year, then the KVP Kùpele Piest’any, a team from Slovakia which is practically a sort of national team, finally the champions of all the youth categories in Germany, the SSV Esslingen.
The teams will play on Saturday and Sunday in a round-robin format which will qualify the last three to a tournament for the awarding of the bronze medal and the top two to the final, which will begin at 7pm on Sunday in the presence of the authorities.
The Locatelli Genova project, awarded by the Municipality of Genoa, envisages that the tournament is only the highlight of an initiative which included a long preparatory phase before, and a post-tournament which will allow all the girls and boys of Genoa attending primary school or means of being able to attend, for a long period, a free introductory water polo course (for information write to the company’s email [email protected]).
“In the meantime we invite everyone to the Sciorba, from 2.30pm on Saturday and throughout the day on Sunday (from 8.20am until the final, whose kick-off is scheduled for 7pm, and we wish you a lot of fun” he writes, in a note, the Locatelli management.
